Great story...Looks like you are on the right road..
A suggestion if you can work it.
Take your time and do it at a pace you can afford, get a degree in mechanical engineering.
You can do it nights and some by mail and the internet.
Took me 10 years but it was well worth it.
My story is very similar to yours when I started racing.
    Good luck.

One of the best threads i have read on here in a long time.Wish i had the extra money to buy the clubs wagon. My Dad gave me a Merc wagon like the clubs. He felt bad for me because i had just traded my 59 Olds 98 4 door that ran great for a 57 Ford Fairlane 500 2 ht with a blown up engine.I was 16 at the time.I drove the wagon for a while but decided to put the 383 and auto in the 57 Ford.It wasn't fast out of the hole but man would it fly on top end.Thank you for letting us know there is a future in Hot Rodding.I am 56 now and still feel like i am one of the young guys. Thanks again for being the hope of the future. You should be very proud. Congrats on your Club also.

I owe everything to my grandfather and a guy named Bud Link for where I stand today. My son is well on his way too.I hope this post keeps going and is used to inspire more of the "old guys" to take an interest to guide a young gearhead along. Thanks for posting!!

I was just thinking along the same note.
By the responses of some of your club brothers, think of the impact YOU have had on them. It seems to go both ways. Sounds like you may have some lifelong friends.

Cool story. You should never shun someone away. Great people come in all forms. You've got a really nice looking car for young man of your age. Lessons learned for later in life. Keep this tradition alive. FALFA

    Great story!

As a 20 year old with a lot less hands-on experience than he would like, I gotta say I'm massively jealous.

  26. Great story, make sure that you remember how you felt and the way that you were taken in and what its done to your life. pay it forward and the circle will continue.

  27. I'm an old guy now, and those few car buddies I had are several states away or died many years ago, but this thread cures all that hotrod loneliness. I've got a story to tell someday, but it can't be better than the one I just read. Carry the flame forward, "cupcake," and embrace that nickname. It's been bestowed with affection, and someday when you're the wise greybeard, it will be whispered with reverence.

I still have it. I was going to sell it to fund the coupe, but I got through the financial part. Unfortunately it is too long to fit into my garage, so it's at a friends shop.
