I have allready adressed this. pretty sure I am being different.I have a vision and pretty sure it will be a nice piece when im done.

i love what you are doing the merc will look great im not sure when im ready to chop mine but when i do i hope it comes out like yours

 

Thanks Guys, I will be starting rhe bodywork next week.

 

Be sure and save the right side inner frame rail brace as it has the VIN # stamped on it.

 

Keep in mind that 8.8 rears have a LARGE (about 2 inches) pinion offset. But you can remedy this by narrowing the rear and using another 8.8 short axle. Internet articles cover this. I wonder if it would be possible ( or cost effective) to make the 8.8 rear wider.The later disc brake Explorer 8.8 rears are 59 1/2 " WMS to WMS. The stock Merc rear is 61 1/4 in. WMS to WMS.

I,m pretty happy with it. A little more fine tuning and ill be ready for body work.

Cool. Did you put any shape along the bottom of the doors to follow the front to back contour of the rocker?
The person who did this one must have though straight across was good. Maybe he thought the door panel could be shaped out with bondo???

I have been a bodyman for over 20 years and I am anal on panle fitment .My doors wont be fitting like that.

door about finished bear claw latches next.

 

Passenger door latch and striker installed, door lines up cherry now. Now I can finish fabing thd upper door radius.

 

Doors look great. I have some small holes in the bottom of both front doors on my 50 Merc. That entire piece looks to be pretty complex. Looks like you replaced the entire bottom of the doors. Did you fab the piece, or find a source where it was already fabricated?

 

My friend and I made them. he owns a sheetmetal shop.
