I'm in the process of building one right now. Like NTF, it too is ridiculously expensive. (carbon fiber, titanium, magnesium, ceramics, compacted graphite, etc, etc)

This is one we bought in 1986, Fuller chassis, Covell body, Cerney paint, Kelly lettering and Keith Black 336" 55 Chrysler. Price $5000. with enclosed trailer. Built in 68, 100 runs, parked in 1970. I shortened it to 150" wb, installed 6-71 and we went Nostalgia racing. Now it is restored as original I am told.

    Tom,
It was 1986, no one on earth, could have predicted the collectors interest or value of an obsolete dragster. The class we needed to fit, required a wb of 150"max. This was one of the first of 4 cars to race in the new division. It would have been quite a gamble to build a complete car for the class. If the class failed, we would have been stuck with a car without a purpose. I shortened it in such a manor, cut 25" off of the front and remounted the "biscuit", along with some radius rod tabs. I could have put it back as produced in 4 hours. The car is as produced now.

I spent nearly 6 years to build 1 car.
All this is why I don't race anymore. Tom S.

Alright, is this car Chrysler or Desoto motored?
I have seen this photo before on the Hamb and I originally thought this was Bob Amos in Mickey Cox car from here in middle Tn. Red and white cowl with blue chassis looks just like the way I remember it before Bob went to BB with a early motored rear engine car.
Any photo's of the Cox & Amos Jr. Fueler anywhere?

I'll see if I can find out Tom as I'm not sure, but I believe it's a Chrysler.

Everything I have has been posted Tom, Lost all my files many years ago during a move, only found a handful of shots stored in an envelope tucked away in a drawer to share with everyone. I have found a few on Ebay that I was lucky enough to get back, Thank god I had them stamped on the back as mine...lol

That is a damn good question, and statement Gasser1961.
One of my favorite classes in the past.
No blowers, 304-inch engine, naturally aspirated, on nitro. The cars were super light (900#) and they put on a great show. The cars were easy to build and pretty cheap to run. A SB Chevy could deal with 98% with no problems. EVERYBODY tipped the can all the way in this class.

In the beginning days of Nostalgia drag racing (NDRA-ANRA-WTA) it was thought of to get more entries into Jr. Fuel that one could purchase a out-of date iron sprint car engine (410 ci) or build one with like parts cheaply. Complete motors could go for 3-4g's and thats pan to injecter.

    Question,
When, and why did Junior Fuel Dragsters switch to alcohol?

Too bad Jr. has turnned into what it is now. Low car counts, huge money to build a SB. There needs to be a bumper sticker, "Bring back JR.Fuel!"

How much fuel was used during a run? They must of run a smaller pump, right?

I have started a search for my Dad's Jr. Fueler. It's a 210" Don Tuttle TF chassis that was purchased from Tom Kidd in the late 60's and was "campaigned" in Southern California for a few years (OCIR, Riverside, Lions etc). Besides my Dad both Kelly Brown and Bob Hightower had some seat time in it. The car was all black at the time with "Jim's ARCO Service" on the side panels

I don't remember the name of the gentlemen that he sold it to only that his shop was a few buildings behind Tom Kidd's off of Bolsa in Garden Grove. I do remember that his push/tow car was a 1956 Chevy Wagon with a blown hemi under the hood.

Any help, finger pointing or email directions would be much appreciated.

A few months ago I called up Roy Fjastad (formerly SPE) to order some of his "Full Bore" Dzus fasteners, we got to talking about 60's era JR. Fuel cars. He said if they had a class like it used to be (Nitro,Direct Drive, No Burnout), he would build a car right now!
