Gasser Louie I have heard that Mazmanian's Vette is in a private collection in your neck of the woods. What a great piece of history to own and enjoy in one's collection.

Here is a pic I believe is the 1962 Winternats before they modified the wheelwells. The car won class at the event and ran in the low 12s.

Also here are a couple of pics of Wife Trouble.-Jim

Rocky nice pic. Vettes and ladies posing is something that I don't seem to get tired of. The thing that strikes me about this pic is that she has quite a nice banjo.-Jim

I was going to say the same thing. Wide World of Sports use to show this event. About 4 or 5 firemen would ride on the back of this with a ladder and take off from the starting line and fly down the strip and slow just enough for the guys to jump off, throw the ladder up while the smallest guy is climbing up it to a catwalk. Crazy but I thought it was so bad ass at 10 years old.

In an attempt to get this thread back to the matters at hand, here is a pretty cool 62 Vette at Milan in what I believe is 1966. This blue C/MSP Vette ran a modified small block with a Watts linkage rear suspension. It was built and partnered by Ron Reader who owned Midwest and Butch Elkins who had played with 409s and the like in 56/57 Vettes. The car was driven at the time by the late Al Maynard. There is another pic of this car in the Woodward Avenue book by Robert Genat. If I could only stumble on this car under a tarp in someone's garage or barn. You really have to wonder what happened to all of these great cars. Sad if they were needlessly destroyed by "restorers".-Jim

Doug you are right about that, plus he had and drove some pretty nice cars. One of my favorites of his was his black 57 Chevy that ran in E/G and I believe D/G. Still have good memories of that car and I told him so a few years ago.

A real good guy for sure-Jim

Don, I will keep looking. There were so many of these 56/57 Vettes that were raced, is there any possibility it raced earlier under a different look? I have looked for a number of years for some of my junk lurking in the background or whatever and will add yours to the list-Jim

  26. Jim thanks. I don't think it was any other car....thanks for looking!

My thoughts exactly. Not a gasser, but I showed up at an NCRS meet with my tilt-nose ,flared fender, BB Coupe 30 years ago, and you should have heard the comments on how I "destroyed this car".

Growing up in R.I., we used to go to Connecticut Dragway in Colchester (65 miles), or if we had the extra gas money, we'd go to N.E. Dragway in N.H. (100 miles). Anyway, I remember watching the Gasseres and the Motorcycles run. I ran a couple cars and bikes at those tracks and had fun doing it. When I traveled around the country (70's) I'd always look for the small Dragstrips with the "Backyard builds" ... that was when you could afford to race. I'd still like to get a pre-63' Vette' to play with, I'd even sell my 39' Ford. Unfortunately, those early Vettes are $$$ cars. handicapp racing was fun, but what turned me off was when they started the "Breaking-Out" Bullshit.
