    Getting another Stude!

1965 Commander 4dr. 283/AT. Will have pics this weekend!

  2. Ol' Red thisis not reflection on yournew stude but you reminded me of a question I have had for awhile.

Does anyone remember when it was that stude went to GM drivetrains? I know the later Avantis had GM drive trains.

I believe it was 1965 & 1966 for the Chevy mills.

  4. Thanks, I knew that they had them in '68 but didn't know when they started.

46 is correct. Stude was trying to cut costs down and purchasing the engines from Chevy allowed them to save money rather than building them themselves. At least thats the reasoning that I have come across. Could be wrong.

No dig taken on it PnB. Many people still think that the 283 in the Stude's was something special for Studebaker only. It was just another run of the mill 283.

  6. My commander is inspired by a mechanics coupe from when I was a kid. He had what he said was a 283 in it, I think he may have fudged the engine size a bit, he was out running everyone in the valley.

I have gone back and forth a ton on mine, it may get my small block or it may not, I guess it just depends on which engine is closest to the cherry picker when I get that far. :D:D

So I got to wait until tommrrow for pics of your new old car?

    Got any pics of yours?

    Pics tomorrow or Sunday.

We are helping a friend move then going to our daughter's School Auction tomorrow.

Then on Sunday we are getting our new house inspected. I will most likely get over to see it before or after that. Hope to turn it in to a second Daily Driver... wife's idea!

Of course this comes up when I have a full schedule!

  8. Not much to look at, I haven't done much with it in a while. It will get one of these two engines or set up so they interchange.

When they moved production to Canada, they had to leave the engine foundry behind in South Bend IN. So no more Studebaker engines were built. That's why they used the McKinnon engines manufactured by GM.

They all have to start out somewhere! ;) I'm sure as time permits, that it will be a screamin sleeper!

  11. That's the plan.

The bar isn't real high I am afraid. A lot of really slow studebakers out there.

Kind of why I like them. I aint out for speed. Just to cruise.

I figure with the 283, I could upgrade it a bit to get some pop if needed.

  14. You didn't need the image tags, Ryan has done something to the site so that if you just copy and past a picture it does everything automatically.

I almost bought one of those once, I thought it was cool. Of course I am a little twisted. Cool.

My buddy just bought this M15 Railway Express he plans on hot rodding it, I sent him pics of Littlemans Divco for inspiration. I also included a shot of my 1946 M5 underconstruction!

Here is my '57 Transtar I bought a couple of weeks ago. The first pic was when it was hidden in the woods with trees growing into it.

My Daughter's old '55, it was her High School car in '88 & '89. She named it "Marilyn".
She sold it in 2005, to a fellow that took it up to Three Rivers CA., and then he re-sold it.
Saw one like it at the last Sacromento Autorama, pretty sure it was her old car.
Left my phone # and e-mail with a member of his club, but have not heard from the owner.
