From here to there will take a couple years.
I plan some basic customizing for now, drive it this summer and chop it next winter.

Bought off the lot here on the HAMB she looked pretty good.

Got her home and into the shop in January.

    Scrubbed her face in Feb.

    Pluck her eyelids

    Practiced my french

    Started to shave

..... and dared to dream a little.

    Looking good dude!

  15. Rad! Good luck with the build! Looks great so far!

  16. I just chopped off my moldings to. Terrible to weld up after. There is some welting impregnated with tar in the seam and rust. Makes for a dirty weld. Some parts welded ok but the area closer to the roof was dirty.

Your right, ugly as snot. I started that today. I was using gas today, I looked over at the flux core and started wondering...

Welcome to the club..nice way to start, shoeboxes make great customs for sure,i always cringe when i see the rear seams being shaved, not that i am against it,just the thought of a screw driver digging into your ride makes me sweat..haha

  19. Flux core is even dirtier. Caution thou, stagger your welds to keep things cold. It will warp on you. The area closer to the roof is the most troublsome i found. The panels don't match up very nice in that area. Getting a nice transition from a peak at the rear to round at the front is a pain. I've seen some bodywork on some cars in this area that looks bad. Wait till you see the deep hole filled with lead. Brutal factory seam.

  20. Here's what you'll find if you haven't already. Seam must have been 1/2 in deep. I got out my heavy body hammer and dolly and hammered it out flat. Gonna weld the seam up and a skim coat of bondo will do. Welding a steel edge at the trunk gap thou.

Pick it up as soon as you can, there are none left around here, I changed mine out for a 50 Merc grill, but no way I would sell the
Meteor grill it is also an easy fix to put it back.

51 Meteor Grills were very popular in the 50's- 60's in merc and ford customs down in California.

Getting pretty hard to find too -

I never did like 51 Meteor grills, but you are right a lot of guys do. I have a buddy that has one for sale if any one is interested? Larry
