When I was 17 I bought a "posi" rear end out of a Monza for a V8 Vega I was playing with. When I got around to installing it I found out it was a peg leg. Figured if I was not smart enough to check it out before I exhanged cash it was my own damn fault. Great lesson.

Seriously, it's small claims. You've been watching too much CSI.

I always communicate with my tenants via email for this very reason. It's come in handy in court on more than one occasion.

  5. My grandad had cattle and horses and bought and sold them all the time.

He used to say, "if you buy a horse and the damn thing falls down and dies on the way home, don't bitch and moan about it...a deal is a deal".

He always stressed that it was up to you to know what you were buying and not to completely trust any seller...ever. Sometimes even honest sellers don't fully know what they have.

If you ever come out west I'll buy you that chicken dinner and tell you everything about that Rust free 1950 Buick Convertible I bought 38 years ago.

HaHa. Same deal as yours kid. Nice old guy with cool cars and parts. Buick was parked in a small garage. I could only see it from the front......
All my older friends were laughing at me for buying the rust bucket unseen...
But hey I was just a stupid kid and wanted the car so bad.
The good thing from all this is that you will not do the same thing to the next guy.

Five pages of replies so it's probably already been said but maybe worth repeating:
It's your lack of care you bought something that you knew nothing about.

Try reversing it.... Let's say a year later, you found out it was a rare factory test prototype Y block. Would you go back and give the seller more money? No being a troll, but...;)

I think the OP gets the point, but how you could of never heard any horror stories from friends before you bought the engine is beyond me, unless you are a newbie. No way to buy things unless you know as much or more than the seller. If I took every sellers word for gospel I would have a garage full of gold..cause every rear is a 4:10 posi, every BB chevy is a 454, and every small block is a "corvette" engine, right? And many sellers do not have any idea what they have, just what their friends have told them.

  16. Yep!

Tough love at first, then learning lesson, then some tounge 'n cheek fun, now just redundant bullshit.

I think "THR1LL3R" got the point and now this thread is just going down "drama row".

Every Y Block Ford engine is described as a 312. I had a 55 Ford that had the original motor and I was told it was a 312- of course it was a 272. Not sure if anyone would really care if they are looking for a nostalgia engine. That 272 ran good. Wish I still had that car.
