Projects Black Bird my 1964 straight axle falcon build

I was not going to be happy with a street freek high front end so after the number crunching i fired up the butter knife and started to cut...this is a rough mock up but i got the leafs nice and level and the rear spring mount almost 3 inches higher in the frame from where we mocked it up the first time...so i will be boxing this in and then welding the mount in place and drilling the spring hole through the frame rail for some added strength..i hope to have all the ft end figured out next week so i can move on the the rear wheel wells...i better go buy some more tips for the butter knife,im sure im going to use a few up..

Hey fast eddie i hope this helps you figure out how your gonna set up the wagons ft end.. Should be low enough to respond well at 130+..

Looks Great! Be careful welding on those front subframes,they are galvanized!!!While you are in there you may want to stitch weld all those joints along the subframes as they are only spot welded!!I had my Comet apart for cleaning and freshening and discovered a lot of broken spotwelds!!! ROY.

Roy i was thinking the same thing...weld up all the spot weld i can get to from the inside then box the rail in...i'll be getting dirty this week for sure...moving right along though..

Looks good. Know all about the undercoating on the "coons". Had mine dipped. Yes...the floorboards look super clean and solid.

I spent a few hrs cutting and fitting the boxing plate's for the rear spring mounts and welding them in tonight...then i cleaned my glasses and fired up the tig and cranked the amps up and burned a few rods on the axle mounts...here's some pics.Almost ready to start cutting the rear wheel wells out next...gotta make room for some slicks.

The rear spring bolts just squeaked through the front of the torque boxed...i just added an extra washer and welded itin place...worked out sweet..

I had some help today..thanks to john,he fitted the plates to the right side i had cut out the other night and i got busy welding some more..then we broke out the sander and had at it..here's some pics..next i will be working on the fire wall...lots of holes to fill...Rooster...

I had the front fenders sandblasted and found these dents..had about an inch of bondo...

 

Ah a good reason to go fiberglass!

After looking at these fenders i think im goona fix them insted of going fiberglass.i'll get them bolted down and metal work these dents,should be cheaper to fix than replace..
