I did. Only lasted a few shows. Not the greatest fit. The teeny-boppers moms were freakin'.

    RIP Mr Jones

One of them was not to far from me here this summer, a guy in Galion, Ohio had it. He's had all kinds of weird shit. He built a Speed Racer car a few years ago, I think 2 years ago he had the real deal Ghost Busters Caddy, and before that he had an early Bat Mobile he used to drive around. I don't know if his Monkee Mobile was legit, but I definitely saw one here last year.

D.J's passing surprised me. I had no idea until I read this thread. Now that Monkee's theme song is playing in my head. " Hey, Hey, we're the Monkees....." Anyone remember D.J's guest appearance on the Brady Bunch?? RIP Monkee

  12. I do. Hendrick was booed in Charlotte when they played here.

    RIP Davy. Loved the Monkees.

When we were 10, we would argue about who was cooler, The Monkees or The Beach Boys. What did we know.........

RIP Davey, grew listening and watching the Monkees. So Sad

  16. I also used to be glued to the tv when the Monkees were on. But I never did like that hideous monstrosity called the Monkee mobile. About the stupidest looking custom I ever saw.

RIP Mr. Jones. Favorite song was "I'm a Believer". Didn't hear anything about this until reading this thread.

  21. I always liked the touring car top on it. I think it would be cool to do up a Poncho wagon that way. Sad to hear D.J. is gone. Another English David Jones didnt want to be confused with him. So he changed his last name to "Bowie" And the rest is history.
    R.I.P. Monkee man.

I'm friends with the local guy that bought it at the BJ auction. He's a great guy and drives it around town to local cruise nights and shows. I've actually ridden in it. It was a treat for sure.

The way it was explained to me the very first one built was the second car that appeared in the series and the second car built was actually the first car that appeared in the series. So the #1 and #2 cars are both unique in their own way.

  27. I have these shots that I took as a snot-nosed kid at our local Ace Wilson's Royal Pontiac dealership (when I lived in Royal Oak, Michigan). Turns out the only shots I have are these "ghost" shots or negatives. Click on 'em a few times to enlarge them.
