It was pretty good where I live two bombs during the whole war, and even I am not old enough to remember them. Some food rationing lasted until 1954 and I think that was when gas rationing stopped. By the mid fifty's when things were improving, with rock n roll music, and American movies America suddenly became the centre of the universe

Anyone know what was going on here? Los Angeles in what appears to be '41. The photo label says "buses to Santa Anita", but look at all the stuff stacked on the curb. I wonder what that was about.

Wow, thanks. Upon closer examination of the people in the photo, I see that is exactly what it is.

Yo, White64! All true HAMBers FEEL your pain, ya know?
But... we all respect a guy who knows how to as...sess a good roadster!

(Now, if we could just get the 500 underway! :( though I know no HAMBers
like that silly mid-winter race in Florida, nor the silly May race when we
would really rather cook our weiners, eat baked beans and drink socially
    acceptable beverages.:D)

Wow ! What an amazing collection of great old photos. They really take me back to a nicer place in time. The black and white really adds to the aura of time and the early color shots with those soft muted tones is every bit as cool. Keep em coming they really make me smile.

yes this was one of Americas darkest moments thats Japanes Americans being transported to "interment Camps " Santa Anita race track was one "Holding Facility" where rounded up Japanese people were held till wars end they lost everything the owned they could not bring with them. Through marriage I have a Japanese cousin from Hawaii that is Niesie(SP?) First generation born there that joined the military and when he got home on leave would have to visit his family in one of these camps. No other "Enemy" of the U.S. got this treatment Germans,Italians etc. werenever treated like this during the war .

A very interesting automobile. A gentleman in Lumberton, North Carolina owns one. He owned the last Studebaker dealership there as well.

Yes, we just watched War of the Worlds the other day. I never saw it when I was a kid but I remember the previews and posters at the theater. It was great fun and the flying wing footage was cool.

The prop driven wings were the XB and B-35's and the jet version was the B-49. Sadly, all were destroyed.
