Who has a STRAIGHT 6 in your HotRod? Come On, stand up!

  2. I was looking at the room I have available for installing a transmission. The stock Hudson trans and bellhousing is fairly short. With the '47s "X"-frame, installing a TH350 or TH400 would prove difficult. The PG I have access to is a short-shaft transmission, so it was going to be easier to use and work with the existing situation. I'd prefer a three-speed auto (a 700R4 would be ideal!), but the price and size of the PG is good for what I need.

    I understand your length concerns.
    Have you looked into a TH200?
    The smallest version of the Turbo-Hydromatic series, it was originally designed as a replacement for the PG in the Chevy Vega, in the early-mid 1970's.
    Often called "Metric 200" because the word "Metric" appears on the pan (referencing the use of metric sized bolts - a shift Chevy was trying to make in the mid 70's), it is the same design as the TH350 and 400, but in a more compact package.
    I'm sure you can probably locate some base measurements online. Compare them with your PG and see how things stack up.

    I am running a 261 with a 235 head , in the 50 Chevy !!! Loving every drive I take with the 50 !!!

    I run the 50,000 mile original flat 6 in my 48 plymouth, original three on the tree that is tight as the day she rolled out the factory. She runs out pretty nice.

    What muffler(s) are you running on it? It sounds really nice, not overbearing like some of my 6's have in the past (mostly through headers and a couple of glasspacks or turbo mufflers.) YOurs sounds a lot like the one I had in my truck with a 6 into 2 into 1 with a 3" flowmaster. I always liked the way that sounded.

    ^ ^ ^ nothing wrong with that! mine gonna have that 30 degrees leaning tower of power too.a 225 slant 6 with 2-2 barrels of fun.....

  11. i have a 144 stock with a three speed on the column in my falcon and i averaged 28 mpg all summer. it doesn't have a ton of power, but it gets out of it's own way

    It's a dynomax muffler with 2 in and 2 out. There is an x-pipe inside of it, which helps tone down the L6 sound some.

    Here's what it sounded like before I had the muffler and tailpipes done. It's just the stovebolt headers into some down pipes that teminated underneath the drivers seat:

    So I have time. But I just sat down and read threw
    this entire thread. It was great! Alot of info. :rolleyes:
    With vintage motors getting harder to find at a reasonable
    price, A straight six, with trip webers. May be just

    1958 235 ci, saginaw 4 speed, 68 nova rear on my 50 chevy pickup. Love it. Gotta get them fentons on it soon, make it real noisy!!

    I have a 48 Dodge pickup cut into a roadster, I run a 84 chevy 292 bored to 301,cam,headers,tripower and a 5 speed box. I think straight engines are more interesting to look at and are better proportioned in a rod.Who wants another 350 chevy?

    What have you guys done as far as a kick-down cable?... ANY pics would be greatly helpful!!... i have a 235/3 on the tree that i'm about to swap a turbo 350 into. (i know, i know)... i have every part I need, but I know i'm going to have to do some mild fabbing for a kick-down cable. Let me know what you guys have done. Thanks!

    235,clifford intake,carter afb,slit tube headers,mallory ign.astro coil,t5 borg warner 5 speed.runs great.
     
  26. 56' 235ci. with a shaved corvette head short h2o pump saginaw 4speed and a set of cast fentons with straight pipes in a 40 chev pickup ...... ignite the fire and light them tires :) ....... might not be the fastest but it beats the babbit beater 216(in pictures) that she came with , and gets a few triple takes as well.

    i have a 200 6 in my falcon wagon with a c4 auto i like it fine it will cruise the speed limit no problem!

    I may soon be diving back into the world of inliners, though this time it'll be Ford (forgive me fellow Chevy friends!!)

    Other than Clifford, is there anyone producing 223 speed parts these days?
