Hi, just checking out the Model A builds on here and stumbled on the pic with the 50kph sign, then looked at your location. That is one nicely proportioned A Tudor. I am building one too at a similar point in construction, well slighty behind you. I would be interested to meet up sometime and compare hotrods. Send me a pm
Been a while since I posted some pics so here goes. I get carried away when i'm working and forget to photograph bits and pieces. Getting to grips with repairing the body. I would have preferred to gas weld the panels, but mig is all I have at home.
Also built a roll bar with integral seatbelt mounts. (3 point belts are required to make the vehicle road legal here). I think it should be plenty strong enough.
OK so I needed a new windshield frame as mine was well eaten by the tinworm. After checking out a few second hand ones and not liking the price of them, I decided to try making one. With some 3mm flat and angle, and the old one as a pattern, this is what I ended up with. Still have some more to add ie glass channels, but it looks ok I think.
While I was at it, after replacing the lower section of door skin, and sanding back the body, I made some new door hinges after trying hopelessly to remove the siezed in pins from the old ones. Hung the door, needs a bit of a tweak here and there, but she's starting to take shape.
Very cool build. I'm partial to sedans and I really like the chop although it's awful tough for me to see out of mine. Keep us posted throughout the build.
progress is looking really good, great work. I like the roll bar I was planning on putting one in my A coupe. maybe
Thanks ! Yeah it is a bit hard to see out the screen. The chop is only 4" but doesn't help when its also channeled and you're 6' tall. Live and learn, I will build the next one differently. Is the visor on your car drilled?
Thanks man. I only put the roll bar in as it seemed easier than trying to make the 80 year old body strong enough to take seatbelt mounts. Gives the car a bit of a racy look too I suppose.
Geez.... another build happening in me own backyard that we didn't know about..... Looking good, any updates ?
Been a while since my last post, so here we go. Attached licence plate after spendinging an hour makinging a swoopy bracket for it. Just been out for a quick blast, no windscreen glass yet, so picking a few bugs from the teeth. I'm really happy with the way she drives, brings a smile to the dial every time.
Removed dash rail, replaced rusty sections, primed, painted and refitted. Dash looks a bit better. ( don't know why the thumbnail upside down)
Got a rough coat of paint on now and a shiny new piece of glass in front! Just been for a ride, my hands and knees are still shaking, what a rush! Anyways, I have had thoughts of selling her, as my certifier (who's looked over the project from day one and is responsible for making it road legal), has been suspended and no longer in business. Which means I now have to take it to someone else and might mean a complete body off inspection with removal of paint etc... Aargh!! I love this car, but what a kick in the guts after 7 years of work! What to do?
