Naked lady hubcaps ???

Back in the 60's my dad ran some naked lady hubcaps on his studebaker hawk.....anyone ever seen any ? They were chrome and had a naked lady on them. I sure would like to find a set. Let the smart-ass comments begin !!!

The originals were smooth with the naked lady being a lot larger and sticking out further, as I remember. I always wondered what effect they had on wheel balance.

The ones I remember were smoothy caps with a very pronounced nude lady on them. I don't recall ever seeing the ones pictured with that design on the cap background.

I've never cared for them but have to admit when the background is painted to match the body color they look ok on this 46 Ford.

Jim Hibbs former owner of K.O.A (now deceased) had the originals on LoLinc his 49-51 Lincoln last ones I saw were $1000 for set 15 years ago no telling what they are worth now.

 

There used to be a Merc. in SoCal that had the naked lady attached to his spindles, so she stayed stationary while the wheel went around while it was cruising.

I guess they are better than naked dude hubcaps.

 

It would seem to me a 4LB hubcap would fall off rather easy, after a slight bump in the road

I am second guessing myself now and wondering if my memory is clouding what the ones I saw looked like. I did some searching today on the net and all I found were ones that look like what the guys are posting up.

Wish I still had one of my late 50's JC Whitney catalogs or an old Honest Charlie catalog. That is where I think they were sold.

I looked through my 1968 Honest Charlie catalog and did not see them in there but it might be in an earlier one.

 

I remember that Jim always took them off at night when parked at the motel... At the time he was running them,I don't remember ever seeing another set.

Lots on ebay, and Big Rich sells them in Colorado...He sells the "lady" part separate too...Just sold 8 of them to a guy who was using them as handles on a Kustom Coffin for a deceased bro of his...

 

Butt, traditional... and yes, I remember that Merc. from SoCal that ran them, with the Lady mounted stationary in the middle. Kinda' messed up yer' mind as you looked at the car as it went by.

The hubcaps are made so the centers don't spin when the car is moving.

 

I had a chance to buy some a few years ago.
They were like a domed chrome full wheel cover. Totally smooth, but with a very slim naked lady pretty much the full width of it.
Way cool. Should have bought them!
