The Gasser Passer is back in Ohio !!!!

Great idea. That formula worked really well for Project X.

Why buy a historically significant car if you're not only not going to preserve its history, but ignore it? At that point, find another car without significant history, and build something to make your own.
Otherwise, you're advise is no different than painting a hat on the Mona Lisa, just to say "I changed it to make it mine."

if you are going to talk to george...don't put it off too long.just saw him saturday night,at the geezer get-together....talked to his son,...george is really slowing down fast,and he is really worried about him.as lstwsh stated,they didn't know where the car was ,or if it survived

 

Damn that is amazing...Ohio George is my favorite from the gasser wars. When I was a little kid my uncle used to tell me all about George every time he put on his old race car t-shirts, and how he used to hang out at his shop and at the track, I got to meet him at a nostalgia event at National Trail back in the 90's with my dad it was cool! I would give my left nut for that car!

Good luck, can't wait to see what you do either way...Obviously I woul "un-chop" it Glad to see it back in Ohio!

 

So please tell us what is the rest of the story? How did you find it? Was it listed as the old Gasser Passer? What does the rest of it look like? Will you rebuild it to race again? What happend to the running gear? I think this would be a blast to put together again!

Good find.........easy to prove authencity........take it to Ohio George........simple as that. And I agree with an earlier post........

Below one of or maybe even the most famous Prefect out of Ohio......ran for many years, maybe 7 years or more the Chuck Finders Chassis....Clark Auto Parts "IT".......if you saw it run, you never forgot this car........I was at Chuck's shop in Elyria a few years back.......and he asked me if I remembered the "IT".....I said, who didn't...ran on or under the record all the time...

 

A friend of Rob told him about it. Owner died and his brother was selling it to settle the estate. He knew what it was and also seems a lot of guys in the area also knew it was the gasser Passer. We went to look at it and Rob made an offer on it, and a week later we went to pick it up.
Body is solid all around. Fiberglass doors, rear fenders and front end.
All the chrome will need to be redone. Chassis is in good shape.
A lot of things have been changed on it over the years,as is to be expected, as it went through at least four or five owners.
Myself, I would like to see it put back to the Gasser Passer.

Look at the Frame and this Photo.......I think the hood latch is unique to the Gasser Passer as well as the Motor Mount Location. Blower seems intersting as well.

The drilled shackles on the back of the front leaf springs, and their location, is also the same.

Measure the length of the Hood......it looks longer than the Anglia. The hood on my Thames is 4" longer than an Anglia.....they called it a prefect / thames glass front end.

Trouble

 

I vote for leaving it chopped. No doubt Ohio George would have chopped it if he kept it. I think he chopped his 33 Willys more than once and the last chop was pretty radical.

 

Trouble, that Austin 4 door looks hot. Nice find on the Gasser Passer, so close and I never heard about it over there. Amazing the stuff thats still out there.

What a great piece of history! Even though it wasn't chopped when Ohio George had it, it's obviously a very old chop, and why wouldn't that have it's own history too? If we get caught up in returning them to their roots they'd still have a flathead 4 cyl. under the hood, and skinny tires.
I'd leave it chopped, and still paint it and letter it like it was when George ran it.
Those Prefects sure look long with the extra doors and added length they did on the chassis.

 

I would vote for this plan as well...regardless of the final decision its a very cool score! Congrats!!

 

I vote to leave it chopped and a historically correct paint job.

 

"Historically correct" would be to restore it to the way it was originally built!

 

I vote to leave it chopped too..........un-chop would be a waste of time...is there really a "Value" difference.....................................but if you can fly the Ohio George Colors.....then it would be cool.....The hood scoop will be sweet with the chop too.....

 

Great find, I'm going to have to stop by the Museum in the near future.

 

This is a nice car ... Comparing the photos, "Ohio George's" shows a different parachute recess ...

 

Great find Rob and Carey! One more reason I need to pay you guys a visit. I would leave the chop and paint it gold.
