Making parts on the Weekend, the old Visor had a bullet hole in and was torn so had to make a new section.

Turned out OK, took basicly all of sunday to do, some touchups still required.

Welded up the engine mounts so they can take load then set the motor down, leafs in front compressed down leaving 2" of travel, little less than I had hoped for. Hope that isn't too low.
Damn think sits low now. 48" To top of roof at visor!

I'm interested in this build. Looking good so far, and I am very glad to see you are staying with a GM grill.

Shouldn't be I did check that before I decided to go this way, not more than a 1/2" clearance but still clear.

So after a summer break, back at it.
Pulled the engine, cleaned it up and gave it a coat of 52 chevy v8 red (por15). Seems to be reall durable stuff, time will tell, unfortunately it looks pink in the pictures. Chrome valve cover is on the way.
Spend last 2 days working on my lakes headers, having to miss the intake has been an issue, went thru a bunch of mandrel bends to get it doen and out of the way.

Well I'm going to have to ruin that first smooth curve, alternator doesn't fit under it, needs to be up about an inch...and so the comprimise of apearance over use begins!

Personally I like fenders on and off cars and with the no chop look, I like the fenders personally, but with the 5" chop, the fenders are not proportional to the body when it comes to my eyes. Just stating my opinion, BUT the 5" chop does look badass. If I built a coupe, it would NOT be chopped, but it would def. have a little channeling going on. Kickass project, time to read the other 6 pages...

New slightly modified header, definitly not as pretty as V1.0 but at least it clears the alternator now.

Well the body goes in to the sandblaster this weekend, see if we can't clean off 80 years of rust. Took a fair bit to get rid of all the wood without ripping the car apart.

Good news / bad news. Took the old 230 into machine shop 2 weeks ago, Idea was have them look it over, found the oil pan was a bit milky and thought might have a crack somewhere. Turns out that was fine but valves, seats, pistons, all showing their age, somebody re-ringed it but that was about it...sooo.
Now its going to become a 250, .030 over, 307 flat top pistons, valve job up sized 1.84 intake, 1.60 ex, new seats etc, long and short, complete rebuild. Already had the new isky cam for it, and intake so i guess its all in now .... falalalalaa...lalalala !

Good looking project! The 1st pics you posted sure brought back some memories....I have 2 1931 Olds coupes. I bought the 1st one in 1980 and street rodded it,the car looked just about the same as yours when I started on it back then, I finished it in 1981 and it has not changed much since then. Also have a bone stock wood wheeled coupe. What did you do with all the stock components??? (always looking for spares for the original car.) I also have a few parts around here. Keep up the good work !!

Thanks RedGrizz, not too many of these vintage Olds kicking around anymore.
Most of what I took off was rusted seized and or horribly disfigured, sold some of what was salvageable on here.

Well I got the head work done on the weekend, ported and a mild polish. Pistons are in just need the guys to deck the head and it all goes back together. Its too bad I am still so far from firing it up.

That is definitely not a Chevy engine, side valves and starter location.

Unfortunately the very first thing the machine shop did was strip off my red paint job. Chalk that up to a learning experience and a lost Saturday. Could be worse.

Got the 230 come 250 back from machine shop last night...muhahahaha. Wallet feels lighter for some reason, they are not kidding it is probably far cheaper to make hp out of a V8 but that would be the path of least resistance and far less interesting. Now I want to put it together and bolt it to something to make it go.....but alas that will not be for a while yet.
    Specs include:

Isky 262 Supercam and spring set.
Mild Port and polished 230 head, decked .030
    1.84 Intake, 1.60 Exhaust valves.
Bored .030 over with 307 Flat top Hypertech pistons
    New Ballanced 250 Crank.
Offy dual carb intake, Dual 2bbl Weber/Carter Carbs.

So I guess now its really a 254.
If I can get 180 ponies out of it I'll be happy.

An olds 455 would have that much hp at just off idle, and enough torque to dislocate a neck bone.lol
