Last night I was doing some winter maintenance on my wife's 64 Comet and was thinking how many miles do most H.A.M.B. members drive their cars a year? I am up in MN where most years from the end of Oct to the beginning of May the nice cars are sitting. This year is not the norm because it's a balmy 29 here and no snow. I was looking at my records and we drove her Comet 5,291 miles since May 5th when I awoke it from its winter slumber 90% done by her at the wheel and I drove my 1968 FJ40 1,942 miles over the summer. That may be not much but I thought is was respectable. What did all of you do and in what. Tim
The only hobby vehicle I have on the road is my 1962 TR4, and I put less than 1500 miles on it in 2011. Enjoyed every one of them.
also your wife sounds like a badass chick. i've done around 2000 a year since i got the rancho. easy maintenance and parts availability make that possible. the weather out here helps too. the traffic, however, does not. manual drums do keep the butt-pucker muscles pretty toned, though
My '33 is stored most of the winter but I probably drive it 8 months out of the year. It rolled over 56,000 when I put it up a month or so ago, been on the road for 4 years so around 14k per year. 5000 of this past year was done on a 2 week trip to California. Why have a car if you don't drive it is my motto.
Depends on the year, and which toy. I put just over 10k miles on my 55 last year, it was a busy year.
We've had our '37 on the road since '77. We drove it about 15,000 miles a year until 2004 when we moved from NY to Florida. Yeah, alot of miles and 2 engines. Since 2004 we have driven it a total of 1500 miles.
Depends on what I have out each year. The '55 pickup I'll put 3,000 on it, and about half that if I have the bike out as well. Now with my next project coming out next year, it will be even less per vehicle, but it will be fun!
Tim, I am a misfit so you can't put a most guys sticker on my miles. When I have a car running it is my dailey and I drive it summer and winter. Snow, Ice, or dry. Granted I don't own show cars. My last ride I put 80K on in 5 years. It is more common for me to drive one in the 12 to 15K range any more, I don't drive as much as I used to. I currently don't have anything on the road so I am begging and borrowing rides when I need to go smewhere.
all I have on the road that is old is my 61 Dodge, it hasn't been out since Gambino sit down... when was that? drove it to work for 2 months last year when my daily took a shit. about 3500 miles. it was my daily for 3 or so years when I first got it 20 years ago. does that make me cool?
.......Put a bout 7,000 miles between the 4 cars......only about 6 good months of driving here in Wisconsin.....
thanks man, shes pretty cool. We need to get her falcon going, even with her light foot the truck will get 14 MPG. It sucks but she says she loves driving old stuff, alot of people stare when they see her driving around in a loud and roudy truck.
I put about 4500 on my 46, about 3500 on my exploder (tow vehicle and utility driving) and about 2500 on my daily.
ha, that is pretty cool. my buddy's wife is the same way, they bought a shitty old c10 for use on their farm and now it's her daily. she says she loves the looks she gets on the road driving the old beater.
5500 on the '55 Cadillac this summer...altho I missed a few events I wanted to get to cuz the high gas prices kept us around home more than usual…we didn’t get to the SK500 in Dewey, OK…or to Santa Maria, California, or even Casper, Wyoming, for their Oil Capital Show, or to Scottsbluff, Nebraska for the Father’s Day show. I really wanted to get to Indianapolis, Indiana, for the newest GG’s event at the Indy 500 track, the Starliner event in Wichita and/or GG’s Scottsdale event just a few weeks ago...so that would have added a few more thousand... R-
I'm on my way to about 10,400 a year. I drive my T every day it doesn't rain or the temp doesn't drop below 50.
other past projects about 14000 a year i get current car done will be daily driver. so expecting about 24000 a year
For most of the ninties and all of the '00s I averaged about 20 - 25000 a year on the Plymouth. Hard NOT to put that much on a car in Phoenix. A couple of years with mulitple many month trips to WA and back were probably more like 30,000 per year. Just started driving the "late model" (A '71 Maverick... Baby steps!!) full time in May of last year while the Plymouth is laid up, but soon it will be back to business as usual!
6006 miles to Cal and back round trip door to door. Yep no radio with blower and Halibrand singing WHAT my wife Laura did a lot of that on our short trip. Yearly average usually 4500 miles in a roadster and 2000 in a coupe. And a lot of WHAT along the way just a bunch of fun thats for sure.
