Description

The Portland Company issued Christmas cards showing 1880s vintage locomotives that the company had built. This card reads, "Built for the Grand Trunk Railway in 1867 by the Portland Company, Portland, Maine." The reverse of this Christmas card reads, "Pl. 78 Gift of the Portland Company, Portland, Maine, Dec. 19, 1963."

 

That is correct, the law against dangerous hood ornaments came January 1 1959, and it said that the hood ornaments could not be higher than 0.118 inches, and at least the same width as height.
Ford and many other car company's came out with replacements for the hood ornaments that was approved. But many just had them cut down.
It is still illegal here in Sweden according to law, but every thinks it is okay on old car now a days, even police and the DMV.
