That shoebox is a fine example of a mild custom. About 80% of the photos in this thread are NOT "mild customs" by anyone's definition....

What is your point? What the hell does brakes have to do with the definition of "mild" customs.

    Huh?
"Mild custom" refers to body modifications (or actually, lack thereof), nothing more. "My way of thinking" has nothing to do with it. These are standardized criteria used by show promoters for decades. They came up with "mild" to differentiate a class of cars from "full" customs. If you don't believe me, look it up. I didn't make the rules...

I always thought mild was anything and everything except chopping and/or sectioning.

Ed's right a mild custom is defined by the number of body mods. It has differed slightly from one show series to another but the basics were 9 (I believe) body mods or less equals mild, more than 9 = full custom, and a chop or sectioning makes it a radical custom.
Minor mods like nosing and decking usually get counted as one mod. I would consider most of the cars on this thread as mild customs although quite a few are aproaching full custom mine included. Mines nosed and decked ( that's 1 mod), door handles gonzo (2), gas filler relocated and quarter filled (3), quarters extended 21/2 inches (4), 55 Chev tail lights frenched upsidedown (5), frenched headlights (6) and the hood getting made onepiece (7) although I count it as part of the nosing and decking. So when I finish the rest , olds windsheild (8), 53 Chev grill molded in(9), frenched lakepipes (10),shaved bumpers (11) and molded gravel pans (12) it will firmly be in full custom territory.

So out of curiosity and English ignorance of Kustom classes, what category would my truck come under?
    1. Nose and deck
    2. Shaved handles and antenna
    3. Fuel cap relocated and hidden
    4. Lake pipes Frenched into running boards and running boards welded &leaded to body
    5. Impala taillights Frenched
    6. Bumpers shaved
    7. Rear doors welded together, corners rounded hinges shaved and relocated to create top hinged tailgate
    8. Full Kustom interior
    9. Full Kustom flake and Kandy paint
    10. Ford embossed script cutout from rear doors and made smooth
    11. License plates Frenched front and rear.
    12. Gold anodised mesh fitted behind grille, sidelights and turn signals shaved
    13. Front flip hood
    14. Heater louvres removed and filled

15.rear door drip rail shaved and lip molded abve to prevent water ingress

I've researched this as hard as I can, but have never come up with a satisfactory answer. Perhaps you guys can help?
    Thanks
    Paul

“Koolest Damn Panel Truck Around” is probably not technically a category. But if it were, I think that’s where I’d put it.

Paul, I think your panel would be in "Full Kustom," even tho those mods are all "mild," there's enuff of them. A chop and/or section would put it in the "Radical" class...

According to the 2009 ISCA (Internationl Show Car Association) rulebook, this constitutes the custom class:

    Conservative

    0-3 modifications
    Mild
    4-6 modifications
    Semi

    7-10 modifications

    Mild
    4-6 modifications
    Semi
    7-10 modifications
    Full
    over 10 modifications
    Radical
Any number of modifications, at least one of which is chopping, channeling or sectioning.

But to answer the Shermanator's question, nothing was in the rulebook about changing engines/trans except "engine conversions" and that isn't spelled out...however, changes to the frame were listed. Not only that, but paint (candies, flakes, etc.) counted as a change.

If you want to read about the custom categories, go here:

  30. Well I have 9 mods if you consider the engine, trans, & suspension, (all Mopar in a Ford) Puts me into the Semi Custom Class. So, guess I'm in the wrong Thread. Removing my post. This should make SPECIAL ed happy.
