    Which ones fit flush?

    Which ones overlay?

    What aftermarket ones are nice?

    Did Ford make factory skirts?

Do other models/years fit the shoebox?

    How do they attach?

    Smooth?

    Ribbed?

    Flared?

    WHAT LOOKS THE BEST?

    Pics would be great!

Check out RoyalShifter's thread on "Victoria's Secret".... he's got some shots of the skirts... and he's modified them and they look awesome!!

I think the flush non ribbed skirts are the better looking ones!

I agree, they're nice, but they were custom made, before he modified them.

I have steel Foxcraft skirts, they have a reliable clamp arrangement. They move around a bit, but don't fall off- They're old ones though-

I have a set of Foxcraft steel ones too , like in the pics above . They look sweet .

They sit on top of the fender , BTW (i.e. not flush) .

  10. I'm making my own, not finished yet. But i like the foxcraft if i was to buy. The big fiberglass cruiser skirts realy don't fit that great without a lot of work it seems. They look great thou.

    So, who makes flush mount?

    Rich

  13. I don't think anyone makes flush skirts for 49-51 Fords. All the ones I've seen are custom made.

I personally prefer the Foxcraft skirts.

The flush Shoebox Ford or 49/51 Merc skirts that I have seen all were custom made or the fender lip was modified so that the skirts fit flush.

Sorry, just saw this! Yes, those are the Foxcraft ones-

  17. I have a Merc, but I have mine bolted up in two locations so they don't move around.

<!-- message -->Which ones fit flush?
    THE WRONG ONES.

    Which ones overlay?
    THE WRONG ONES.

    What aftermarket ones are nice?
    NONE.

    Did Ford make factory skirts?
YES - ON THE '50-'51 CRESTLINER ONLY.

Do other models/years fit the 1949-51 FORD?
    NO.

    How do they attach?
    THEY DON'T.

    Smooth?
    WRONG

    Ribbed?
    CORRECT FOR CRESTLINER ONLY.

    Flared?
    NEVER.

    What looks the best?
FACTORY RIBBED SKIRTS ON CRESTLINERS. ANYTHING ELSE IS PAINTING A MOUSTACHE ON THE MONA LISA, OR AN INSULT TO THE HANDSOME LINES OF ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AUTOMOBILES EVER BUILT!

  19. Running the overlay foxcraft as the majority is. Great skirts, look good, not sure they ever made a flush but could be wrong, honestly think the overlay without ribs is the way to go. Never understood why they make those with the silly ribs.

Not factory Ford , or they'd have a "notch" in 'em (i.e. not as low over the tire) and they'd have 3 ribs on 'em) . Yours are either Foxcraft brand (or possibly another brand) or factory Mercury ones , cut down (which is what was done back in the day , before Foxcraft started making them) .

    How very eloquent :)

I find it odd that the only new steel skirts that are available are of the ribbed kind.

    They're fugly.

This is the first time I have ever heard that ONLY Crestliners came with skirts...where are you getting that info, Mr. Edsel??? If anything, skirts were an option at the Ford dealer...

Yes, the factory ribbed ones are ugly...Ford missed the mark on that design.

I have NOS Foxcraft on mine also...any flush-mount skirt on a shoebox Ford was a kustom job...those look fantastic, geemann51.

I just noticed that mine have a slighter flatter slope on the rear than Weesner's do...I wonder if there was a difference in Foxcrafts over the years? That is a great shot of Weesner's shoebox, btw...looks killer...always loved that car.

Here are the stock height '51 Merc skirts on my '49 Ford...I had to shorten the latch mechanism so they would work with the Fords shorter wheelwell.

yes, LogLady...my NOS Foxcrafts need A LOT of work to get them straight...the bottom corners are unfinished and sharp...but that's definitely how they were- mine are 100% NOS with the mint green primer still on them. I plan to ditch all of the mounting brackets they come with and make custom mounts, and finish off the bottom edges really nicely.
