If the short one for a Dodge does'nt work, for sure an adapter from Summit will mount to the block & you can swivel it foward or down or any way you want it.

Don't remember what AC filter I use. I'll check in a bit.

I have a 302 in my '52 Ford F1. I used one of those remote filter mount kits to move my filter up onto the fender well. Otherwise, I would have had to use a tiny oil filter, which I didn't want to do.

I have a remote oil filter set up with '69 302 in '51 Ford because there is no clearance to run adapters like the 90degree, etc. but, after looking at link Phil1934 posted will go to NAPA and try a super short filter, plus get a free calendar. Thanks

Motorcraft FL400 is a smaller diameter shorter filter for some applications, and a full diameter short filter was used on Thunderbird Turbo coups in the late 80's.

I did not know the 400 worked? It is way smaller diameter and a bit shorther but the FL300 is the same filter just 1.7" shorter. I had to run that filter on my 48F1

  10. WE always used an oil filter for a 79 dodge pickup [2 wheel drive] with a 318 engine. Very short with correct dimensions to fit ford engines. forget the part number.

Had the same issue with the Ford 302 in my avatar. The oil filter hit the frame. Then, at O'rielly's, I found FRAM PH43 for a Ford 302. Only 3 1/2" long...the length of a business card. Problem solved.

I use Wix instead of Fram, but here's some comments. If the standard PH8A is too long, the (Mopar standard) FRAM PH43 is a bit shorter. The PH16 is shorter still(used on 351W Police Interceptor with oil cooler). The Wix 51335(NAPA1335) is about 2" long. Reportedly the Wix 51311 is a little longer that the 51335.

  13. Yes, the FL400 (motorcraft P/N) has the same thread and seal diam as the larger FL1A or PH8a. FL400 is just a bit larger diam then the seal surface. My wife's 2008 Ford Edge uses that FL400 and I found out about the thread and seal diam when searching for a larger filter, but there really is no room for any larger diam or length.

For a 90 degree adapter check older Ford Vans with a big six. My '71 with a 240 had one from the factory.

  17. I use a small diameter/short oil filter for a Chrysler product. AC PF53, Motocraft FL793, etc.

never could find a very good cross reference site for oil filters. so, after searching around ended up getting a NAPA 1311 (Wix 51311) which has a height of 3.372" (stock app NAPA 1515 series height is 5.178") . Would have gone for the K&N filter as upgrade but, nut on end of housing made things too tight again. AC-Delco PF53 is a very common filter and used on Harley's too. Harley discussion sites have good info on this filter. hard to find dimensions on all filters I looked at. summitracing.com gives pretty good info. still concerned about having less oil in system. at some point will likely go back to a remote full size filter set up.

+1 on the PH16. I had an '81 LTD police car with the 351W and oil cooler adapter. That filter fit perfect, and about 1/2 the length of the FL1A.

George mentioned a PH16 used in the Police Interceptors is shorter. So, when I was in Orilley's yesterday, I took a look at it. It may work for you. It seems about 3" long. It is much shorter than the PH43 that finally worked for me. Check it out.

I know an MG midget filter will fit but it's on the small size. I have had to use a remote oil filter kit on my 302 in my 40 Ford pickup.

80's Ford Van with a 460 should have a swivel adapter so you can run a full size filter.

I'd go with a remoto set up so I could have a full size filter that would also be EZ to get to.
