Busch's Drive in at 3600 South Tacoma Way, Tacoma, WA. It was a popular cruising hangout in the '60s. They went out of business in the early 70's.

14th and Pacific Avenue in Tacoma, Wa., looking to the northeast. In 1972 when I got out of the Army, I worked at Budget Rent A Car in a little hut in the parking lot at the left end of the Greyhound depot.

Looks like the Pacific Nationak Auto Parts at 4001 Pacific Avenue, Tacoma WA. In the 60's and 70's, this was THE place to buy speed equipment in Tacoma. It's now Baxter Auto Parts and not much better than Pep Boys.

Burn's ARCO, 64th and Mckinley Avenue, Tacoma WA. It's now expanded to a much larger station and they still do repair work. They also have a tow yard and autobody business. When I was an auto theft detective I used their shop for investigative work. Nice people!

This looks like Sanford Motors in the 6000 block of South Tacoma Way, Tacoma, WA. Sanford was the very first Rambler franchise in the country. The father of a high school friend in the 60's owned the dealership until late in the 70's.

The B&I Store was located at 84th and South Tacoma Way in Tacoma WA. It was also known as the circus store. They had apes and other critters on display at the rear df the store. It's still there, minus thew animals.

This picture was probably taken in Jersey. See the "Par-Troy Auto Parts" Van? That's Parsippany-Troy Hills on Route 46.

Years ago, there was a PBS documentary on John Prine that was terrific! Part of it had the cameraman riding along while John talked and drove his black 51 Ford. Verrry cool!

Wright Park, Tacoma, WA. The building in the background is the arboretum. It still looks just like that today. I spent many a day in Wright Park as a toddler in the early 50's with my grandparents. Great memories.

Looks like Titus Ford just got their new shop vehicles (1938-39?). I particularly like the Harley trike parts-mobile. They used one until the mid-70's for parts delivery. Titus still exists today as Titus-Will, but they abandoned their downtown store in the early 60's.

Looking north from about 22nd and Pacific Ave in Tacoma, WA. That's Union Station in the background. I believe the service station in the foreground is now a body shop. Union Station has been completely restored and now houses the Federal Courthouse and the Washington State Museum. Cool place.

Stadium High School in Tacoma, WA. The building was originally the western terminus of the Northern Pacific Railroad and was built in the 1890's as a hotel. It was damaged shortly after it was built, and the city turned it into a high school. I graduated from Stadium in 1968. More great memories.

    That program was really cool.

Local singer songwriter Keith Sykes was friends with Prine. Keith was starting a collection of car manufactured in 1951 ( I think that was the year he was born ). He used to regularly visit the guy that lived across the street from me who was in the music business. I don't know how far along the collection ever got but I did see he had a pretty nice Nash, two tone green and a ratty Studebaker that John Prine had signed with a nail!!!!
    Another missed photo op.

Almost looks like an HO scale scene from a model railroad.

Thanks for the "Then and Now" pics. Actually the now pic was taken a couple years ago. We don't host spring training anymore in Tucson, and the Toros are gone as well. Heavy sigh.
