1949 ford shoebox-- RECHOP

started a rechop on a shoebox this weekend , owner approached me about redoing it after he couldnt get anyone else to touch it , had him get a donor top , had to unchop it graft back on to stock height then rechop it more pics to come

Ton of work but definatley worth it

 

last pic is of the final chop, took 3 1/2 inches out of the front and 4 1/2 inches out of the rear

Is it wrong to assume that it was Bill Hines's idea to angle the a pillars like that?? Even though it wasn't my favorite chops...i admire that they took a different approach compared to the normal everyday chop you see and probably would have left it alone just because it's related to Bill Hines. Shoeboxes are plentiful, just sayin.

Well, it no doubt looks good now. but imo it only needed redo the a pillars.

Bill Hines and Masterson Customs, gambino customs and several others all had a hand in this. I sat around this deal at KKOA in Salina, KS and watch them sweat their asses off and bust their knuckles at no cost to the car owner to create this car in only 3 days. I liked the end result it's to bad some people have no respect.

 

I agree with the majority - looks way better now .

Good work, I don't know nor care to the whole politics of the story, but I think it's going to have a nice shape to it. My question is when they do those raked back A pillar chops, how do they get a windshield in? In other words, do they tilt the roof section upward and the cowl section downward? I can't get my brain around how they do it without stressing the glass out tremendously. Have fun and keep at it.

 

Just because somebody famous did it, doesn't mean they did it RIGHT.

Personally I had no appreciation for the angled A pillars. There was no save for that chop without the replacement top.

yeah, i can appreciate, and respect the guys doing for their thing with the chop, but personally i did not like the "a" pillars. they would be fine for a bonneville car, but too laid back for my personal taste. i liked how low it was, but the front needed to come up at least an inch or so, and the "a" pillars needed less angle...

if i had those guys work on a car i would work WITH the stuff they did, not cut it off. hell it would actually be EASIER to just get another shoebox all together. im sure the car with the donor roof could of been built...
