Come on man....telling him to use his 7 year old daughter. That's just plain stupid.

  2. Not for nothin'... but if this kook is filming his house, he could be filming anything or everything that is going on. Better to be safe than sorry, also I'd run him through the local sex offender list to see if he pops up.

I live in a nice area and we have TWO of them within 4 houses of each other on the next block.

  3. Thanks or listening.

Neighbors can be a pain, I have done some extreme things to make them more tolerable but I would not suggest that you do anything that I have done in the past. Anyone of them could have backfired and put me in a very bad situation. Sometimes what works for me will not work for you if you catch my drift.

I have an edge that a lot of people don't have, my elevator is stuck between floors.

If the cop didn't tell you that you were doing something wrong then I wouldn't worry about it. If you didn't break any laws then what can he sue you for? He is probably just trying to scare you or bully you since he is an asshole lawyer. Whatever you do don't stoop to his level or threaten him or get in an argument with him. If he comes and harasses you then call the cops on him. You have the right to work in your garage until someone with authority tells you otherwise.

I know. The worse part about it that the wife and I keep talking about is the video taping. We have three kids of our own (one we adopted) and other foster kids that live in our house. Until a week or two ago, we had 5 kiddos, oldest being my 7yo down to a 1yo. The three bigger ones are ALWAYS in the yard when I am working on the car. Its our trade off ( I work on the car/play with the kiddos & they get to play outside). Ours of course are only a few that live on the street. We are on a cul-de-sac and with 11 houses there are 19 kids, teen down to baby. There is ALWAYS noise!

No its not...and if you read my post I said she doesnt even need to be there, this way too for her will show the cops being on her side and not yelling at her dad. I also said "nervous about his intentions by recording my property" not his daughter.

But youre right., having a child for any reason other than for talking to other soccer and hockey moms should be looked down upon these days. So just go hire a lawyer and sell your projects and tools and still go into hawk for making two or three phone calls.

Voh, sorry for your issues, youre a good man. Im sure they will work out in your favor

I'm nice to all of them. He's not old. No one else has a problem. It is during the day. That was 730 (getting there) but he has given me shit at 230 in the afternoon.

If you're not in violation of any ordinances, I'd tell him to stuff it.

Also, I'm pretty sure it's not legal to film people on their own property without their knowledge, but I'll have to check on that one.

Wow. Sorry to hear you are going through that. I think you are on the right path in finding a lawyer for advice. Sounds like he has some serious issues that probably have nothing to do with you, but you are the one he has chosen to take it out on. I don't see him being able to have much of a case if you are abiding by the law. Here in the "live music capital of the world" we have noise cops with db meters that plague venues with outdoor music. The places can get fined if the music is too loud. Too loud isn't really all that loud.

  13. We have a jackhole in our neiborhood that has been calling the cops on one neighbor. He has written letters to the editor and even goes to city councel meetings to complain about this one neighbor who is a friend of mine. This has gone on for six years. My buddy has done nothing wrong the cops have never cited him, the city has never sent him any notices nor has the county. But yet the asswad still calls and files complaints. Til one day one of my buddies sons had to go to traffic court, The asshole neighbor was there and stood up to try to testify against him, the judge called this neighbor into his chambers and basically told him he never wanted to see or hear from him concerning these people and if he did he would charge him with harrasment. We live in a real small town and everyone knows everyone.

I have been doing some research and found that I am only allowed 63 dba at the line. That said I can no longer mow my grass(noted as +/- 90dbr) and I think that my kiddos are too loud (conversatin is +/-60 dba). Seriously, we (wife and I) have been talking thru some stuff and will prolly work on insulating the garage door up real good. Looks like I'm gonna have to move crap around an make me some more room to work with the door down.

and for all you locals, we are also talking about a little "gathering" of the hot rod minds to kick off the fall winter season here in South texas. Of course, our cars are a MUST bring item.

thanks again for all the support.

When I built my 28' x 38' garage, I made sure the walls and celing were well insulated and used 5/8" wallboard, simply because I live on a Cul-de-sac and I have neighbors on all sides of me...not only did I make sure to have only two small windows on one side only, but I also added air conditioning...that way, in the summertime, I work with the door down and don't disturb anyone...and stay cool...even with the neighbors. Keeping the neighbors happy is a balancing act.

Never be scarred, timid to work outside on your vehicle, Stop when the law says so and never ever feel you have to hide what your doing so he is not offended. You should be offended that you pay as much in property taxes and home owners dues and he is harrassing you and your family. Get a restraining order on him and also let the police know he has been video taping your children and your not going to tolorate it period. Then enjoy working outside in fresh air when you want with no recourse.

  22. Invite all your roughest biker friends and their Bandido MC buddies over, wearing their full colors. Have fun and make sure to shut down before the 10 pm limit. Your neighbor will be very happy to see you and your family only from that point on. When I lived in SAT, a lot of the Bandido guys would come to the car shows, they liked our hot rods and were not any trouble.

  24. Guess that we're all different. I prefer to work inside with the doors shut, crank the tunes and keep everyones beady eyes off of what I have. The quickest way to make this dude go away is to make the problem go away. Besides that if this guy is watching you this closely it'll drive him nuts not knowing what it is your doing.

we are all entitled to our opinions....

but im not sure about the "problem" going away part.... what is the "problem" ?? a person working on there car on there own property..not bothering anyone.,... if thats a problem.... we all have one..

I would just do what I always do .,... and just smile... not confrontational...just smile and say hello.,.... who knows one day you might have a beer and talk cars with him.....

  26. The problem was noise and an asshole neighbor. If your in the garage and the door shut they both go away. Oh and smile knowing that your probably pissing him off at the same time.

In Texas, a noise complainant is a class C offense, the equivilant of getting a ticket for speeding, running a stop sign etc. In most cities in Texas, they have what they call "City Ordinances" these are special rules that a city makes to allow them to contol circumstances as they exist. Now like some of the other folks have said....if you didn't get a ticket...you don't have a worry...and No Police Officer should write you a ticket for a offense he personally didn't view. I'm not saying that won't happen but it shouldn't. If you receive a ticket you can set it for Municple Court. This court only deals with Class C offenses. The city will have what is called a City Prosecutor...and a Munciple Judge. If you are issued a ticket ..and you set it for court.. you and the city prosecutor will hammer it out and the Judge will make his decision on weather or not you are guilty...or you can set your hearing for a jury trial and let the jurors decide. The bottom line is..make sure you know what the laws are and obey them.......and you won't have a problem.
