Very sorry to learn of his passing. He was one of the greats, never forgot a race I watched between Bobby Langley and Bob Haines, driving the Haines & Cross car, at the '60 Smoker's meet, both sideways, neither lifted, forgot who won, but the most exciting race of the day...he was a classic, built his own cars (one from bedframe rails, if I remember right), raced across the country, usually with his wife and son as the only crew members.....he will be missed.

His name around the Texas gulf coast was legend. I, as a kid, remember seeing him run at the old Freeway drag strip outside Houston-fastest thing on wheels ever. R.I.P. Mr. Langley, you will never be forgotten.

    Hello,

We made a two hour drive out to the old Riverside Raceway back in 1959 for the sole purpose of seeing the best of the Midwest/East travel out West for the first drag race versus the hot Westcoast/Arizona racers.
upload_2023-1-10_5-5-16.png Bobby Langley was coming out West with a horde of Eastcoast racers... we get to see the black race car from Texas in person...!

Bobby Langley was one of those “out of state” racers that intrigued both my brother and me. That FED was nicely designed, was very powerful and had the coolest Hilborn Scoop of all time.

From all of the accounts read in the weekly Drag News papers and articles, the sleek black FED of Bobby Langley from Texas became one of our favorite non-So Cal racers. It was one of the nicest full bodied streamlined race cars. Its big Hemi Motor stood out with lots of power. It had the coolest injector scoop with fins to match the design. A hand made scoop with some cool fins on top.

In a few months of our first official sighting of the Bobby Langley “Scorpion,” My brother and I made another two hour road trip to the Bakersfield Smokers March Meet #2 in 1960 and there were more of the same outstanding racers gathering for the big Westcoast meet.

Although it appears he has not been on here in a while, our own wbrw32 was responsible for the flames on Collins' Oldsmobile, and was also in on the Mexican foray.
