The Great Fifty Seven Chevy post

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by SamIyam, Oct 17, 2011.

  1. I think it looks great the way it is.

  2. i think 57 chevys look good with out the front bumper

they look great with the whole bumper also

the thing i dont much care for is when someone removes the grille bar but leaves the stock grille in the car

but i think they look good with the full bumper and the stock grille and bar removed

can ya tell i like 57's

  3. "Puking from my eyes", thats some funny shit dude, I'm still pissing my pants. Sam, judging from those color combo's, you are the best thing that has happened to that car in a while.

  4. Why not keep the big block, guys started putting em in Tri-5's as soon as chevy started making them.

The "crate motor 283" thing goes over well in '50s-style early Fords, I would think the "crate motor 425hp 396" look would be cool in a '60s-style Tri-Five.

  8. I agree, I've alway liked the "Its a Semi Hemi" signage seen on some of the gassers in the early Big Block years. My dad, uncle and friends called them "Porcupine" engines because of the splayed valve arrangement.

I wonder if any of our Antipodean participants remember this one:

Not the best photo, but all I have. '57 two-door post owned by Joe Lorini of Mattydale, NY. Purchased new, then handed over to Lenny Smith & Kolorcraft, who did the body and paint work. Dechromed, hood "coned" '57 Buick grille, lowered, Lancers. Deep purple with rose scallops. Three speed column, engine was stock 265 with duals and Corvette valve covers.

    This is a '56, but it's an example of a 1960s-era build. This car had a 327 and a 4-speed, but I think it's wearing Cragar GTs:

  16. Right Click, save...

Rusty, your car is my favorite so far... love the wheels, the patina... it has a good vibe!

I might put some glass in it and jack the front up a bit... but then again, I like what they used to call a "California Rake"!

Headlights... grille... leave the bumper off. (sorry bumper lovers!)

But I love the 210 trim without the "Bel Air" insert.

Keep me posted on the progress!

No converts. My dad was fixing a 57 for all my teenage life. Think it was a late 60s or early 70s custom. Buick grill and the lace over the paint. Tried to find pics of when if was together but with no luck

    Have to agree as well.
There are a LOT on here i really like, but this one strikes a nerve with me for some reason. I love the rough around the edges look it has..and i certainly do not mean "rough" in a negative way. Just looks like a car you can really enjoy!
I also really dig the crusty panel painted post car with the 60's hood scoop WICKEDJOHN posted a few posts above..cool!
And lastly, i'm lovin' the amount of hard top gasser's posted. I don't give a shit what anyone thinks, they too can look sinister that way! :D:D:D
