The ends appear to be the upright bumper gaurds for a 51 Merc...centerpiece may be an accessary bar or fabricated..
Carson tops really are a pain in the butt...they do look really good and classy, but it takes a minimum of 3 people (4 is better) to remove mine, and then tere is no place to put it....placed it on plywood in the back yard one summer day....burnt the grass..!
When I lifted the plywood up after puting the top back on, the grass underneath had turned brown (burnt)...I had the top of during the hottest part of the day...
I have been wondering.......what is the exact color on the Matranga Merc? Does it have a specific name and brand of paint? I assume that it was painted with nitrocellulose lacquer? Thanks....CB
its really hard to find the exact color of the Matranga mercury.its been gone a long time. Its is said that it was painted high gloss Royal maroon lacquer with gold iridescent highlights. Thats all i know about the color of the paint of it. Also lots of writers back then will sametime call a color something else. Using there own idea of color.
Anyone have contact for the Boris Mercury that is pictured above? Love that car, that is the quintessential new old custom Mercury.
So if Boris's mercury is the quintessential new old custom. Then Jeff's mercury is the quintessential period perfect custom.
Oh I think both Mercury's are fantastic, thought Boris' paint job I think is more period correct as it's a gloss paint, no?
Just like the guys back in the days. They did what they could when they had the money. I've never heard jeff say his car was finished. Jeff's not some scenester trying to roll in primer and calling it done. He is planning on having it in gloss, but has to wait for the right time.
Bick, I wasn't talking about Jeff's car, you brought it up. It's a great car. I just think the Boris Mercury as we call it is the quintessential early style new custom when it comes to Mercurys.
DUDE!!! LOL!!!! I see where your coming from on Boris's mercury.Boris's mercury is BAD ASS!! I really like it a lot too. I think that Jeff's mercury would be quintessential period correct custom when it comes to mercury's. Thats the great thing about a forum, everyone has there own opinion.
Not really one who loves to post pics of my car but I thought this picture is fitting for this thread and I wanted to bring it back to the top.Was just out for a cruise the other day.
You've done an awesome job on that car Jeff... No question about it. How's that Caddy motor running for you? A little more "oomph" than that flathead mill?
Hey, On the '' Boris '' paint job..............period correct........close, period accurate NOPE! An overcleared urethane paint finish, and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish DO NOT look one-in-the-same, once cut and buffed Kinda like the difference between vinyl & leather in an interior. And as for a " Carson " type top for under $3-4K, today........picture a "Hefty" garbage bag witha window cut in the back of it " Meanwhyle, back aboard The Tainted Pork "
Thanks for the compliment Ed,yes a lot more "oomph". I still cant get over the way it runs and the power difference is just crazy but my flattie was on its last leg.
