Projects Adam's '30 Roadster Shed find! AV8 Build Thread

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Adam M., Oct 16, 2011.

  1. UPDATE! It's been nearly 5 years since I have updated this thread. I've been working on other cars and projects but this one never left my mind for a minute. We went to The Race Of Gentlemen 2016 in New Jersey and I decided I've procrastinated long enough on this car. The Ultimate goal is to be accepted and run this thing on the beach.

The first couple pages of this thread might have some outdated information to the current plan, but might provide some entertainment anyway!

I had this idea of building it in two stages on a stock chassis first, but that stock chassis is on the road under another one of my A's now, so it's straight to the AV8.

It will include parts like this:

    -1946 Flathead V8
    -3 spd trans
-1941 Merc spindles, split wishbone (Maybe not split now...)
-1946 Ford coupe brakes on all 4 corners
    -banjo rear axle closed driveline
    -short '46 rear radius rods
    -16"x4" early Ford solid wheels
-5.50 front, 7.50 rear Firestone deluxe champion tires
    -'32 original grille and shell
    -F1 steering box
-Model A axle Dropped for a total of 4" drop
    -'46 Lincoln twelve steering wheel
    -Walker rad
    -Edmunds 2 carb intake
    -Stromberg 97's
    -Edmunds heads
    -etc etc

The major choice here is between a Model A frame or a '32. I'm leaning towards the Model A frame with an F1 crossmember. I have both and time will tell.

Here is the start to the original project and a good idea and stories of where the parts came from. ITS A MUST SEE!!!!!!!!!!!!

So here is the start to the original thread, before it turned in to a build thread:

Well we all know this situation. We have more projects then we need, more parts stashed then we'll need likely use, but we keep looking for more.

Most of us here have it and its a sickness... here's what my problem got me into!

Its a 30/31 Roadster that a guy had stashed away for the last 14 years. He realized he's not going to finish the car so he posted it for sale. I went to check out the roadster and decided to bring it home.

Here is a shot I always like to get

You can see his Model A coupe up on the hill

Here is his finished car and you can see the front of the roadster down in the building

In the back of the building he had an original '32 frame with K-member, pedels and even has the cross shaft from the mechanical brakes! He had a couple axles on it so it would roll, and an SBC sitting on it.

Here is my buddy Jeff getting ready to pull the motor off it

So I bought the body without the Model A chassis, so its on my body dolly at home in my garage

Its not the best body, but its certainly not the worst either. I think it looks better in the pics!

I'm going back after work tommorrow to pick up the rest of the parts and the 1932 Frame.

Looks like I have a new project...!!!!

    Cool, congrats Adam!

  14. Thanks for all the kind words! There are a few of your cars that played a big part in bringing this one home!

Here are the pics of the frame. I picked it up after work tonight:

I was going to cut that rear axle out as soon as I got home, but it sure made it easier to unload it by myself! Anybody need a 10bolt from an '84 Monte Carlo?

    Complete with stock pedels

Also with the deal came an F1 steering box and column, a pair of rear fenders and a few other odds and ends.

I believe my '30 Tudor AV8 project is going to take a turn. I'm thinking of selling that body and using the chassis parts on this car. You never know what can happen week to week...

Congrats!!! That is a great looking project. I agree with the above statment. It dont get any better than an A roadster on 32 rails.
Keep us posted on the progress!
