Well, I finally got me a car that I am really happy with. Fellow HAMBer, Mike, from the Spokane area sold me his 1930 Model A. The car is a banger with a Lions head, has an overdrive unit installed, a dropped axle, big and little's on Kelsey Hayes wire wheels, juice brakes, etc.... For those on the East side of Washington state, this car made the trip on the East/West flatheads drive this year. Mike and his buddy Jim delivered the car from Spokane to Seattle last weekend. We had a great time while they were here, and it's unfortunate that they could not stay longer as they had to drive up north to the Monroe swap meet the same day! Anyway, here are pictures of the car. Paint is not perfect, but presentable. It will need an interior put together and future plans will be to replace the power plant with something that has a little more oomph to it. But for now, I'll just drive it like I stole it. Enjoy the pics.
The banger is staying put for now. I may want to replace it later, but it's not a for sure thing... I'm just going to enjoy it the way it is.
Love it. Makes me wonder why I'm bangin on old rusty metal when I could have bought something like that and just burned gas. Your smarter than half the people on this board. Myself included...
Here's what she came with: A new Mitchell overdrive unit with cable control, 60- 65 mph no problem Stock 200 C.I. 4 banger, bored .060, Lion speed III high compression head. A modern type of ignition. (Cap, points, condenser) Weber downdraft carburetor with an aluminum intake Cast iron high flow exhaust header The car has a very nice stance. The pics I provided don't do it justice.
Been there, done that. I didn't want a a 'project' car, but something I could drive and work on too. This is just what I was after.
One other thing, I have been on the lookout for a car for the past year or so. The only thing that was keeping me from getting a car earlier was that I had to take my wife's spot in the garage, which I told her I wouldn't do. I pretty much told her that I would sell another car before I bought another. Well, the A came along and after talking it over with the wifey, she told me that if it's something you really want, then get it, she could manage keeping her car out in the weather until I sold my other car. Man I love her!!!
