Everyone is different. My dad barely worked on old cars and had NO interest in fixing an older one.
I was always glued when my dad worked on the cars. Changing spark plugs, tune up stuff was an all afternoon event on a 5 year old datsun 510. lol At 15 I was changing out engines him saying it will never run again. Once running he wanted the brakes to be done by his mechanic. He about choked when the mechanic said the motor had 325HP. He was like sell it.
My son and step son seem intrested. I take them to shows have them with me when I work on stuff. they like loud cars, push their toys making noises. I think my avatar sums it up

What a great project! I built a pickup truck with my dad about ten years ago and man I will never forget it, you can't put a price on time spent with your son in the garage, have fun! looking forward to more pictures.

    Thanks.

Hahahaha. That's great. You reap what you sow. My son ain't long on discipline and his work ethic ain't stellar, either. You want a ride as cool as this? Build one.

Thank you, sir. Will check them out.

You just summed up half of my childhood. Going around making Vvrrooooomm, Vvrrooomm noises. Sums it up for sure.

This is true, it is priceless. As for the more pictures part . . .

All I can say is don't quit on me, people. I feel like I'm standing on the corner, waiting for my Chevy Project bus to come back around. There is no way to explain the hiatus other than to say . . . Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.
    We'll be back soon.

  4. Cool project. Keep us posted.

Don't hardly know how to say this . . .

First off, thanks to all y'all for paying attention . . .

Computer crashed in April or May, lost alot of stuff . . .
about that time I started putting in 60-65 hr weeks at work. . .

Having fallen out of the habit of being mesmerized by Ryan's World on a daily basis, I started to realize that I had an addiction . . .

Hello, my name is Jimmy Hair, and I am a HAMBaholic . . .

Every day I must steer clear of the jalopy journal and all associative elixirs.

No, seriously, I realized that I was missing part of my family's daily life.
    "Dinner is ready!"
I'll be down in a minute (I've still got the HAMB needle in my arm).

There is just way too much cool shit on the HAMB for a grown man to safely navigate.

And the addiction grows on an exponential curve. The number of threads you're following grows, the people you become enamored of grows. I've always said that the HAMB is far better than TV land, but your 14 and 16 year old daughters are not sharing it with you. Far better to sit through a repeat of an old episode of Scrubs, The Office, 30 Rock, The Chapelle Show, or Seinfeld with your daughters than to not be there.

Anyway, thanks for caring, this is such an awesome place populated by outstanding people. I am alive and well.

The Chevy lives. Money is not what it used to be, which partly explains why I went from Oct. '10 to Oct. '11 with literally doing nothing on the project. We have since dusted it off and are back at it. Just remember that we move about as fast as a glacier.

Working on restoring my Picasa account (changed e-mail addresses in the interim). Will be posting updates relatively soon.

Well look what the cat dragged in!
    Glad to see you're back.

BTW...its not an addiction. I can quit any time. Really!!!:eek:

Man we are all glad to hear from from you again. Glad all is well with you and your family!

  25. I can relate to your situation.... I missed this thread first time around, your car makes me realize just how well preserved the ole' '51 Fleetline I was after a few years back, really was. Shame the caretaker (RIP) and the owner (RIP)
had family who couldn't relate to the old dog and it got away from me...
Still don't know if the sold it or scrapped it but I suspect the later...

Thanks y'all. Will post updates when I re-establish my picasa account.

In addition to my computer crashing, I lost 14 years worth of contacts from my Blackberry, including ID's and passwords. Not worth telling the story, but it has been a chore re-establishing account access, etc.

To complicate things further, I changed e-mail accounts in the interim.

Progress on the Chevy has been slow, but there has been some progress.

Hey- family has to come first. I just raided my hard fought-for Chevy fund for a grand to do tires, alignment and a couple of ball joints on the wife's daily. At least she's insistent on paying it back.
