Anybody know about them ? Somebody "pristineparts1' claims to have one and is listed on Ebay starting at $500.00. I sent an email and told him he must mean it's for a 1952 . He said it's very rare ,but is for a 1942. It has a tailshaft housing for an open drive line. Looks just like the old 56 fordomatic i had once. If i am wrong then it's time for me to give up on old cars that i have been doing for over 55 years ,time to hang it up. Take a look at it and set me straight. :D JIM

  2. I think there was something going on about that time but I was thinking it was Mercury. You might try a post on earlyfordv8.org. I would appreciate it if you would update your post with the EBAY listing number.

Liquamatic...I think not Ford, but Merc and Lincoln. Not a modern sort of automatic, it was a 4-speed manual and about 100 pounds of vacuum cylinders and widgets, weird innards with I think one shift on the countershaft! I think it ran as a 2 speed, lower gears were manual select for hard pulling. This all seems like the fluid drive Chrysler had after the war. Foot on gas, sluggish movement, weird slow thump into another gear and more sluggish acceleration...
I corresponded a bit with someone in Holland who had a '42 Merc with that still in it...I have some of the service stuff and parts lists around.
I think they were supposed to be 100% recall, replaced by dealer with regular setup.
Supposedly, Block was special with larger bell to accomodate the fluid coupling, and Ford brought out an adapter ring when the cars were converted--but I have no documentation of that and have never seen such a block.

Appearance won't be much like a Fordomatic...from memory, I think it has a sidecover with three shifters and I believe there is a clutch for the lower gears in the pile of junk up front...and of course it will be very short, with torque tube coupling.

Item # 250891518595 . I thought ford was doing something with the Hydromatic for the Lincoln about that time. The one he is showing looks to be an aluminum case. Sure has got me thinking.

It looks to have open drive shaft. Numbers he is showing are 1A261387 ,the 8 looked like a 6 to me.

That is nohow a '42 Liquamatic! It is some sort of true automatic, from a much newer Ford.
If there is a 1A number showing, that is the prefix for a part introduced in 1951, the first year of real Ford automatics.

    1A261367 is what i found or the 6 may be a 8 . Must be a 51.

  13. Has FOMOCO all over it...I do not think they started doing that until the mid 50's. I bet it's a Ford-o-matic, Cruise-o-matic or somthing like that

I just hope somebody don't buy it thinking it is something rare and get's stuck with it unless they need a c-4 or what ever it is.

the only known ford liquimatic is a ford v-8 club museum , the engine required its own special v8 flathead block, when the trans was changed by the dealer the motor was to, available only on the mercury, the ford v8 club did a article in there magazine about 10 years ago

That is 100% a C4. Not that it matters here. Not an FMX, Cruiseomatic, Fordomatic or 1942ebayomatic.

    I sent the seller a message telling him it wasn't a 1942 trans, instead being a mid 60s C4.

In one of the pictures you can see the part number of the servo. I can't make out the second character but it's definately a "C" for the first character making it a 1960's part. Ford's part numbers in the 1940s are way different.

I wonder how many messages it will take before he gets a clue??

The guy in Holland said he had a '42 Merc with the thing still in place...if true, I think a unique survivor.
Doesn't sounf like that seller speaks "clue"...

The seller ended the auction as "no longer available". He answered my email as well.

Glad we saved someone some potential heartache!

I got an email from him,he was going by the information he was told and never knew the difference, has been pulled from listing. I believe it was a honest mistake and I hope he can relist it later . I believe we can let this thread go to rest ,thanks to all that helped solve the question i ask. :) JIM
