History Dads model collection from the early 60's

I decided to take a few pics of my Dad's model collection. Most were built in the early 60's. It certainly brings back memories of being told not to touch them (although I think I am responsible for some of the damage)

Mild custom shoe box. I like the skinny whites and radiused wheel openings



Cool 34 3 window. Dig the grille insert.



One of my favorites. Tough car and it had 12 wins!

One of my favorites an Edmunds modified

Crappy picture of an old picture, but this is why I like the Edmunds model. This is 1970, and that is me sitting on the tire next to Dad. He built the modified in the picture, and I was in the shop watching and getting in the way all the time, watching arc welding through a helmet, how to squint when you chip slag!

Un-built 3 in 1 F100. I always thought the oxy acetylene tanks were a neat touch.


Another 3 in one kit. This kit has a pile of parts


The 3 in 1 as built. I can't remember if I broke this or my older brother Steve. Oh and the Corvair has a blown mid engined hemi

 

that's really cool... only one of my models survived.

Sweet, Rog can build anything with wheels from small to large scale.

 

I just finished re-gluing a model I built back in the 60's that came apart. They said in the directions to scrape away the chrome in areas you want to glue....s*#t, why didn't I read that back then!

Thanks for sharing, you dad's models are very nice and period correct!

 

This was a great kit. I liked it so much I bought a second kit and still have the model from about 1964. Actually, I ran the first model into the wall repeatedly and blew it up with firecrackers!

 

That is bloody great! Take your time and restore them.
That two T kit is still available, should find it on line pretty easy.

Great stuff! I built most of those same kits back in the 60's. The AMT 3in1 kits were absolutely the best. I must have built a dozen or so '40 Fords, Coupe and Sedan versions. Still enjoy digging them out and re-doing them.

 

Almost all the model cars my Brother and I built, eventually fell victim to BB Guns & firecrackers,.. We just had a small shelf in our room to put them on,.. So when the shelf got to full,.. we had to get creative on how to dispose of what ever one we liked the least.

Ahhhh,... well, It seemed like a good idea at the time!

I'm glad your Dad saved his,... very nice collection.

 

I wish that I had a couple of mine from the 60's. Nice that you still have these and the memories to boot.

This may inspire me to repair my old model collection which has been falling apart and collecting dust since the 1960's.

Nice that you have them displayed, a lot of similarities. Dad's have been in the same Butternut Coffee Cardboard box since I can remember, I should get them displayed properly as well.

 

Your dad was a pretty good modeler. Someone mentioned restoring them...for the most part they look pretty good as is to me.

 

man thanks for the trip back. when i was a young gun i built a BUNCH of model cars. i have no idea what happened to them. a couple major moves, a house full of little cousins. and time. but i sure wish i had them now.i was so proud of mt 41 willys. i won a model car contest back in the late 60s at a hobby shop with it.i was about 13 or 14.my little cousin made it into a flat peice of plastic because i wouldnt let him play with it.i still hate that little shit.

Cool to see what some of our fathers have passed along to us. A lot of our dads must have been painters,welders,fabricators,racers,mechanics,and all around do it yourselfers. I'm 53 and my dads generation had a do it your self attitude. My dad would always say when when something needed fixed " If some guy is smart enough to build it,then I should be smart enough to fix it" Sounds about right doesn't it? Your pops had a real talent,thanks for sharing.
