Muncie 4 speed... I climbed under the car to fill the tranny with fluid .... and like a dumbass.. I stuck the bottle in the filler hole with the cap on.. to see if I had enough angle... and sure enough... I dropped the little red plastic cone off the top of the bottle inside the tranny. I figure it will just sit on the bottom ... Or do ya think it will get ground up in the gears? I really don't feel like pulling it apart...
yup drive it, after a couple weeks its still bugging you drain the fluid and refill. By then it will be chewed up into little pieces.
A small piece of plastic is no problem. One of the used car dealer tricks to cure a noisy tranny was to put plastic shavings in it.
Yep I've seen guys fill old rear ends by filling plastic bags with gear oil and leaving them inside the housing. It grinds the plastic up right away and never has any issues! Id guess the small amount of plastic that comprises that lid would be no problem for that mucie!
I'd try fishing it out the drain plug first, pouring in some oil might "float" it to the drain..Don't shoot yourself in the foot by not trying..
One time I was building a block off plate for an unneeded hole on my performer intake, and well I was putting a bolt in to make sure the threads where still good(moronic idea), and of coarse the bolt falls in and lands on top of my piston... ugh had to take intake off, and luckly I vacuumed it out. Cost me $14 for a new intake gasket... o well
Like dropping something down the carburetor, everyone does it, but nobody wants to admit it! Way to man up!!!!!
Had to check this thread because my initials are "M. E." In a twisted bit of fate,... it could actually be talking about me....
Wish I had been as lucky as you. In my case, dropped a 3/16th stainless washer through the intake manifold on a brand new crate motor. Had to pull the head, retrieve the washer from the #3 cylinder, a new head gasket later ... good as new. Count your blessings & drive it.
I might have you beat. I recently updated my ignition on the 390 to Pertronix. I also have a fresh Edelbrock carb to replace the old Holley, but didn't have time to make that switch. So I drove to Goodguys on Friday, the old engine purring along. Got registered and then pulled out toward the track, took a left turn....and the engine DIED. When I cranked it, it sounded like it was trying to catch but wouldn't fire. I'm pissed, I figure that something has happened with the old Holley. I'm looking and cussing, I can see that the Holley is still supplying fuel. A guy in a '51 Chevy pulls up and asks if I need help. Yep. He takes a quick look and says.... "Your coil wire has come off." No shit - my new coil wire had come off my new Pertronix coil. Snapped it on, and the car fired right up. In my carburetor related thoughts, I hadn't even bothered to look at the ignition. I think I'm at least even with you.
Your fine. Ran a motor for 2 years w/ a ARP intake bolt laying in the bottom of the oil pan. Bada-bing!
Yea, no sweat! Iv'e left at least two small block ford oil pump drives laying in the oil pan. What could possibly go wromg?
