Was racing a Monte Carlo in my '96 Impala SS down in LA, on that long bridge that runs over the swamp on I-10. (Headed to TX from MS). I was hitting about 120ish when I swear the damn front end felt like it was coming off of the ground. Not to mention I was running bald ass front tires. I got scared and let off.. I didn't want to blow a tire and be gator food... I think I left finger marks in the steering wheel that day.
I've got you all beat, I was clocked at a neck breaking 6MPH yesterday on a 60's Seville banana bike!

The best I've done was 125 in an '03 BMW AMG....it really is a feeling of Zen from going the usual 70. I'm not afraid of speed anymore. I've had my '62 cruisin' along the freeway at 100 and change. Feels like she squats down and says, "YEAH! Now we're rockin'!" Lol
LOL I was just lying, 6mph would be a downhill speed for me!!! I had my 1956 Fargo 3 ton at 60mph, that was IT! I never even thought to top out my older stuff. 75mph in a 31 Pontiac? WOW!!!!!! I'm sure that was a white knuckle ride!
Cruisin in a 740iL BMW, doing over 100, was like riding on air. It's like a tank on steroids, but with leather. You never knew 100+ could feel soo smooth..
It was scary, it was downhill and I had been doing 60 at the top of the hill... stupid teenager thing to do! But I was able to ride it out and I don't do THAT anymore! LOL My 52 Dodge 1 ton pick-up does a whopping 35 MPH!
I agree with pretty much everything you said in this and your last post... A lot of these posts are just a little exaggerated... I know what it's like to go fast in old iron and something newer, night and day difference.
120 mph in a 2007 ford focus 135 in a 1995 dodge dakota with a v8 98 in a 1990 freightliner dump truck run out of road 78 in a 2000 sterling dump truck with a little over 26 tons of sand. that is a white nuckle ride on a rough two lane weighing 79000 lbs
Fastest i've ever driven was 120 in a 300ZX - racing (and getting my ass kicked) by a turbo Starion/Conquest. Fastest i've ever been in a car was a claimed 150 in....oddly enough....a turbo Starion. My brother was driving....i was too busy putting perminent hand indentions in his door handle and seat cushion to look over at the speedo...he later told me he hit 150. Fastest i've been in my '27 is 98 according to the top speed log on my GPS. Kind of wish i held onto it a little longer to hit 100. Didn't realize i was going that fast until i slowed down. My speedo is more or less useless....when i'm driving about 30, it registers anything from 20mph to 90mph - probably should get that fixed. Was proud of the ole t-bucket. She handlled 90+ quite well. Was stable as could be - although i think thats about all she had. I don't know that i could have gotten much faster than 100. Wouldn't mind trying it out again, but it was stupid to do it when i did it. Not many roads around here are long enough or smooth enough to handle that in some of our old cars.
In 2002 I was driving my buddies 97 Corvette late at night. I accidentally went to the wrong airport (San Francisco) and was supposed to be at Sacramento International. I got it up to 147MPH! I was trying to go faster, but kept running out of room on the roadway Made it from SFO to Sac in 50 minutes! The car handled great and was super smooth.
162 was fast enough for me in my 85 Chrysler Lazer 2.2 EFI Turbo and 5 speed. Only been there once and it was a whole new feeling. I was late for work at 4 am. and opened it up for 11 miles. What a rush to start the day with. Rod
I read your post on your Caprice... my buddy has an ex-cop car that is modded, he was out one night top ending on a deserted road.... that wasn't so deserted! He said he was going 130mph and saw a truck pull out, he had time to let off the gas and try to avoid the guy (he isn't a novice driver) and he said he STILL clipped the truck at near 100mph! His mirror popped out of the housing on the passenger side, it was a remote mirror, the only damage was huge scrapes up and down the door in an arc from the mirror flailing in the wind, still attached to the car by a wire. His mirror housing had a little scrape, IT WAS STILL ATTACHED TO THE CAR! I shook my head in disbelief, the mirror popped out but never really damaged the housing! Beware "safe" roads in the country! My buddy is a 100% car guy, he said he couldn't tell me what kind of truck it was if he tried, it happened so fast.
140 in a fox mustang, bout the same in a 92 formula, 80+ in a semi. Maybe 100 on a motorcycle. hovered around 100 on a snowmobile. Nothing fancy.
160 on my Honda CBR, 150 in both my BMW and Firebird Formula. Wildest/scariest ride was 105 in a Fox platform 4 cyl Mustang and you could actually feel the lift.
First fast ride was in a friend of my dad's Jaguar XKE in 1964 - around 125 mph and it made a big impression on a 13 year old. I did just over 100 mph up the beach on the north end of Jekyll Island, GA on a friends Honda 305 in 1969 - and no we weren't supposed to be on the beach at all I clocked my nowhere near stock 1965 Turbocharged Corvair Corsa at 132 mph between mile posts on I-75 one night in north Atlanta around 1971. A friend of mine had a bug eye Sprite into which we had swapped a Pontiac 389 motor and a narrowed Pontiac rear end with a 2.65 rear gear - we figured we had it up to just over 120 mph when we chickened out and called it quits - it was still accelerating but sanity prevailed. I was stopped by the Chambers County, Alabama sheriff for doing 112 mph in a 55 on my Ossa Wildfire 230cc two-stroke motorcycle road racer in 1974 - that was wide open with me laying down behind the full fairing hugging the tank. I freely admitted I was trying to see how fast my motorcycle would go and they were amused enough by the circumstances to let me go with a very stern warning. 100 mph was a much bigger deal back then - now its easy but I don't do that anymore.
Something to take into account on some of them is location, like with the rediculous speed I got out of a 79 Lincoln once, it was very good highway with nearly no traffic and where I live is quite flat, so after many miles I was able to obtain some scary speed, if there had been curves or hills or a city ion the way (or Police LOL) I'm sure my top speed would have been a lot lower. I don't drive very fast now though, mostly the speed limit, too dangerous these days.

when my wifes grandmother passed we had just arrived at my father inlaws in west palm beach florida.me and son rode with him back to atlanta and speedo only came below 100 at the ga/florida line when we got gas. after funeral on the way back to west palm we dropped our wives off at atlanta airport they flew back i rode with him repeat of trip up here.they called us as they were just getting ready to take off we were just south of atlanta.we met them on florida turnpike at the oasis(gas/food) outside orlando.they flew to west palm airport got in our car drove north to orlando.we were finishing our lunch when they pulled in parking lot at oasis.im not sure if that was the fastest i ever went but i know we averaged over 100 the whole trip.we was in his black bentley he kept telling me these things were built to cruise these speeds.made a beleiver out of me

150+ on the back of a gsxr 1100 , the original one aged about 12 Gps verified 100 in a 1951 Bentley mk6. And just over that in a tuned 53 with a 4.9 engine Off the clock in my Escort RS turbo (clock stopped at 140 ) that was scary
88 miles 32 minutes,6 stop signs, 1 stop light,witness 631/2 427 galaxie,built by rettig bros. and the telephone poles do look like a picket fence! probably not the fastest but fast enough
