Folks Of Interest Your general impression of the HAMB. Share your good experiences.

  1. Because of the HAMB I met a great group of guys locally who I hang out with every now and then.

I may not be completely "HAMB Friendly" because my favorite era of hot rodding was the late '60's but I sure do appreciate all the pre-'64 style builds here on the HAMB. I've learned a lot from reading stuff on here. I've been inspired. I've been humbled. And I've gotten a lot of cool ideas!

I've been in tears from reading about the outpouring of 'HAMB Heart' here...fellow members giving a helping hand, helping guys out when they are down and out, helping communities in times of tragedy. Yep....some good guys on here.

I'll stick around if that's ok.

I have been on many posts and have found really great answers, when I am answering some the only thing I find is most people don't give enough background info on engine to form a helpful answer, like the guy who thought he had a cam but turned out to have crossed wires.I have found fellow Hambers, guys with a wealth of information.I go to the ham before anywhere else.

First let me say that I love the HAMB.

I have made some internet friends on this venue.

I have found that the HAMB is a gold mine of good information.

    Now for the BUT.

There are some of the rudest people that use the HAMB for therapy to let out the venom and frustrations that they would not dare let out in public.

If one of them were to talk to a member of their car club like they post to their fellow HAMB members they would probably end up with a fat lip or they would be shunned by their fellow members.

Maybe part of their frustration is caused because they do not belong to a car club or that they never learned to be civil in their discourse.

Alcohol takes away ones inhibitions and allows others to see what the real man inside is all about.

I think the internet does the same to those who do not care to take time to word their replies so as not to insult or demean those that they dissagree with.

I have read posts written by those who definitly do not know what they are talking about.

I try to ignore their ignorance but some times I feel the need to correct the information that they have posted because I am afraid that they might cause fellow HAMB members problems with their builds.

When this happens I try to put forth the correct information with source in a way that does not come across as an attack.

If someone at a car show says something stupid most people will try to mince words so as not to insult or demean the one who made the stupid statement.

But here on the HAMB some members feel real brave being at internets length away from other HAMB members.

Where as if they were at arms lingth they might watch how they said things.

Car clubs, car shows and swap meets have enough personal contact that most who participate try to be civil.

My sincere hope is that HAMB members will become more civil and less antagonistic in the future so that more people will participate.

I have introduced friends and acquaintances to the HAMB later to find out that they were put off by the rudeness of some of the member.

Again, I love the HAMB and find it the best resource for most of my projects.

If every one were to imagine that there was a big fist just arms length away when posting or replying the HAMB would be even more friendly and better serve this great hobby.

    Dick :) :) :)

Ohh, shut the hell up! You don't have a clue what u r talking about! And ur rat rod is lame!:D:p:p
Sorry, couldn't help myself! Takes tough skin round here somedays. But not as bad as it was when I joined and I was a late bloomer to the show! I've met a lot of those so called assholes I'n person and the truth is.... They ARE ASSHOLES! :D and I love them to death! But imma smart ass, and so are most of them! a lot of the times when balls are being busted is for fun, but newbs see it as a personal attack! But for what it's worth, they have been here from jump street and Are tired of the same questions over and over. Sometimes it's just cause there pissed that people don't use the search function, sometimes it's cause there not as cool as me. Which I can see being very frustrating! :D

Bought my current car from a HAMBer before I knew what that was.
Met another at a local cruise in and got a part-time job (Thanks Bob).
I take some of the posts with a grain of salt and I enjoy the pics.
Wish I had the time, knowledge & patience to build one ground up but laziness prevails!
Better than watching reruns on TV
Feel sorry for those that ask for opinions (just like a-holes we all have one).

This is an awesome, very well run web site. Excellent control by the owner, and a top notch site.
I cannot post all of the things that have helped me the most, but they are many.
Specifically, every time I post a question in the "Technical" area, I have immediate answers that are unbelievably accurate and reliable.
Also your opening statement describes this site very accurately.
    Cheers,
    Bob

I found this site late in my years, now 71 and not able to build any more, but able to to maintain what we have. Have make lots of friends and got a lot of help on problems. Also proud of being able to support a few HAMB friends that needed help. Been kicked a little but being old gives you a safety valve as you know that not (all know it all) people are right. Love it and thank Ryan for giving us this great site.

In my short time here/lurking here, this place seems awesome. Obviously, I dont have a car that fits as a traditional hot rod per se (66 biscayne), but the knowledge and craftsmanship here is unrivaled. I'm a huge fan of traditional hot rods, though, and eventually will own cars to be posted here....just gotta make it outta college and into my own garage first.
The tech/build articles are amazing, I cant wait to use them to build some of my dream cars (61 biscayne, 58 delray, late 40s/early 50s chopped GM custom)

There are a lot of great people here. Also a lot of real knowledge and craftsmansship. But there is also an overabundance of real assholes. I think a number of those are kids or guys who don't even have a car but they still know it all. What really burns my ass are the guys who know just what it was like "back then" who's dad wasn't even old enough to drive "back then" much less them even being a twinkle in their daddies eye

Been a member a very short while. But I have made more excuses to read the stuff posted here with the greatess of enjoyment and need to know. Sometimes I'm all alone laughing my ass off or absolutely stunned by what someone has written. But that is why I enjoy HAMB so much. Ryan and all the mods thanks for keeping it real and most of the time on topic.

I was more into muscle cars when I found this site but now I am on here all the time reading and learning. This site caused me to buy a 52 Chevy project that I can not wait to drive. I ran into fbama73 in a bookstore in Indy and have learned alot from his project. I also follow several groups on here especially the Hamb Chapel. I know I come on here with siple questions for most of you but I have learned so much. Great site but man is it addicting.:)

  24. I'm right there with ya!!!! Well said !!!

I have got to meet some great people off here and catch up with old friends. Hop on at least three times a day. Not to mention all the knowledge that's going around.

  25. Attention to details, I have never seen a group of people that can better Analise a subject than here, this place is amazing.
    And it's made me a better speller.:D

  26. Ditto: I now keep a dictionary next to my computer .......;)

  27. This has to be the greatest site on the web. What Ryan put together is pure genius. Some of us have been around this hobby for over fifty years, and this gives us a place to hang out. The great part about it is when your done for the day all you have to do is log off. No cleaning up the shop, and getting the drunks out, and down the road.
Along the way some of us have had some interesting experiences. It's a good place to share life's experiences with other. In the few months that I've been a member I've had the opportunity to meet fellow professionals like myself. Guys that have participated in some of the same things at the same time. It's enjoyable writing back and forth about things and adventures from back in the day.
The guys with artistic ability have to be some of the best anywhere in the world. How about the welding professionals. I've been welding for almost 60 years, and look at the pictures in absolute amazement. These guys are just that good.
Some of the projects show ingenuity at it's finest. Some of the workmanship is second to none. The thing is these guys are willing to share with all of us, and it's free. Think about it. No other place like this for the stuff many of us love.
Many of us! That's interesting, ya, we have some that many of us wonder what there agenda is all about. They pretend to be car guys, but some of the crap they write about make many of us wonder. Look we have some bums that hang out, but your going to get that no matter where your at. I like to call these types trailer park trash, or just everyday tramps. In the old days if you where out and came upon these types you wouldn't spend any time fucking with them You'd kick em in the balls and keep on walking, but where all here attempting to get along. I've learned that when someone writes " what do you think " I stay the hell away from it. The tramps are going to be hanging out in droves, just spewing out there venomous hateful opinions. There is so much to read and see that I don't spend my time hanging out in the trailer parks.
When I can, I write about my experiences hoping to help some of the young guys willing to learn. With over fifty year out in the real world I learned a few things, and had one grand time.
If you can help these young guys out. After all when us old timers are gone these will be the guys that carry the torch. The fucken tramps will always be around. I thought about starting a trend something like a few initials that would represent tramp, or trailer park trash. It could go something like " Just another T, or Just another TPT". I'm just thinking out loud!
    Thank for reading, Johnny Sweet

I've saved a lot of time by asking questions on here.... I really appreciate the array of answers I get. I've met some new long time friends on here.... I couldn't do that on any other site and be happy with the results!
I've suggested this site to many others just for the fun of reading some of the stuff that gets written.. I've had many laughs! And the pictures..... I spend about an hour each night relaxing and cruising the attachments.
keep upi the great work fellas and gals....
