SUPER CHARGED Thread - 6-71 blowers - lets see 'em

And Thanks for the Real Deal!! From a trucker that remembers when the 6-71 was still popular on the road. I had one in a Crown school bus with a 10-spd Roadranger. I think it was rated at 220 HP. Man those were the days.

My fav rig was a 1982 Freightliner with a "Silver" 8V-92 Detroit set at 445 HP! With a 13 Speed, that Bastard ripped up the Grades at 55 mph with a full load in the refer! lol Man that rig was a powerhouse

I can't imagine an 8-92 blower on a big block 454 (I think they were gear drive anyway)

Forget about using a 6-71 on anything other than a SB, it will definitely not feed a 540" BB, been down this road many years ago.

The smallest I would recommend on the 540" would be a "10", and probably larger!

P.S. We've been involved for many years now with a number of "blown" street-cars on Long Island. One specific '56 Chev now runs 8.60's at close to 4000# on E-85. Here's a few shots of past builds. The SB blown coupe shown with the '56 is one of our builds also and has been running same unit for about 7 or 8 years now. Fairly maintenance free SB hyd-roller!! That has a "6" on it!! The one in the bed of the pickup is based on a Keith Black platform, all aluminum. The '56 has an all aluminum build also now!

just a stupid question but were there any 6-71 blowers that had more ribs on the housing...kinda like looking like a s.c.o.t. blower? just curious?

Thanks for the input. My HP goal was an honest 700-800 HP on 93 octane fuel. I am going to take your advice on bumping up a size or two on the blower. I plan to spend the correct $$ on the bottom end of the motor, but not get to greedy on the boost. I wll keep you posted!

I'm spoiled running 87 octane in my 6-71 blown 454. It doesn't have much compression or boost...but it's still fun, and gets a lot of miles on it.

Here's one awaiting a rebuild. Having it in the dining room makes for a terrific conversation piece.

 

Anybody running one with an "as cast" finish???.... I think it would be more traditional than a polished version... Don't get me wrong, I just love GMC superchargers... It's that you don't see alot cast finish one's....

 

Im building a 394 Olds with as cast one now,

When I ordered my race blower for my Olds powered fed I asked the question, and was told all of the housings where already polished and in piles

Im sure I could have had it shot blasted first but me likes shiny stuff
when it comes to blowers

Here is a current picture. I would have preferred a cast blower. I guess after a couple more years the polished look should be completly gone.
