A quick update..Rebel wiring kit almost done. Damn I work slow!! Inner fender panels are cut out for the IFS edged with slotted rubber trim from Steele. Lights and panel are all individually grounded to the frame as is the engine and cab all in the same location with the battery ground. Nothing too flashy I suppose, matter of fact still debating on beauty rings. Just want a nice smooth sleeper style for this truck that has so many memories for me.

Yep..SBC..Thought my next project would be a 55 Chevy with a 351C in it to piss off the Chevy guys too

 

Trying to decide if I need beauty rings or not. They can be a pain to fit. What do you guys think? If so who sells the best ones?

That is a sweet truck. I am glad you left the firewall stock. Gives the truck character.
Ditto for the inner fender panels.

 

I'd forget about the beauty rings. It has that classy truck look just fine without them, and nobody likes seeing their rings spinnning down the highway in front of them when they let go...

With or without trim rings the trucks look great. I am subscribing to follow here just as I do on FTE. You have one nice truck coming together. Got a question you said Lights and panel are all individually grounded to the frame as is the engine and cab all in the same location with the battery ground. So all the grounds are on one post/stud? Just curious and trying to learn.

Great looking truck! One of the first models I built as a kid was Revell's 56 Ford big window. Got my first set of stitches with that kit! Always wanted a real one. Your's is pretty much perfect.

 

Don..The gauges are individually grounded to bare metal under the dash. The cab has a bare metal bolt through the toe board which has a ground strap to the back of the head on the engine then from there to a bare metal bolt through the frame which is also where the neg. bat. cable attaches. Each light (headlight,park light and tail) are grounded to the frame close to their location. Think of it as one long ground strap running from the battery to the frame then to the engine, then to the cab. Rule of thumb: you can't have too many grounds and they MUST be to clean, bare metal. Coming slowly..Wiring finished..engine fired..20 year old seat still looks good and goes in tomorrow. Plaque is my old club back in the fifties and still active. Some guys hang them on their walkers.

 

Seat is in and gives plenty of room for access to the fuse block (whew). The plate topper is a 40 year old piece from the fist squadron I flew with. The wheel pics show the install of a 70's Chevy spline to fit the stock 56 wheel to my Flaming River column.

 

One more of the wheel project.

Bill, love the truck. Everything about it is dead on. The color, motor, tires and wheels.....been on my 58 apache big back window cab for about 3 1/2 years. Your a little ahead of me but I'm not far behind. I've always wanted to put pics of my build up. Just dont know how. Couldn't be that hard, right! You have given me inspiration for my build and posting up some pics in the future. Keep it up.

Posting pics is not easy for us computer challenged guys. You may have to collect them under one folder in "my pictures" and resize them based on the chart you see when you hit the attachment icon (paper clip). Keep trying love to see your project. Bill
