Traded a 1/2 impact gun and an old 870 pump for this. Engine was "seized". Turns out a clutch disk spring broke and was wedged between the ring gear and bell housing.

Painted it myself and came out real nice but the color was a bit more pink than I thought.

Here's some completed pics of mine after installing a stock factory '59 Rochester passenger car fuel injection unit, fuel injection nameplates and flags. Nameplates and flags were 1 year only (1959) and there were less than 35 passenger cars that were built with it..................Mike

I have had this one in my collection for a few years. I got real lucky when I found this one. The last owner wound up with it in a trade on a swimming pool (pool dealer) and didnt know what he had. Cool thread!!!

  11. I have always been fascinated with this el camino varient the "El Catalina" It's featured in the October 2011 issue of Hemmings Classic Car magazine. Go here for more pics and info:http://www.hemmings.com/hcc/stories/2011/10/01/hmn_feature1.html

The white one above is a factory prototype/design exercise that was shevled and used as a shop truck for a Michigan Pontiac dealership. It has been restored by Tom Girrard recently and was just at the 2011 Pontiac Oakland International meet where it scored 400 out of 400 points and claimed best of show honors. It has no VIN and only wears a body tag 2180 and does not exist in pontiac books. The first two digits decode directly to Catalina but the last two are the GM code for El Camino.

Another El Catalina was reportedly assembled from remaining prototype parts and restored. It was spotted around 2006 at an auction in Indiana.

The El Catalina below was made from a 4 door.

My pop's 59 in 63... He picked up the car in Iowa for $800 then gave it this custom paint job himself... He married my mom and always regretted having sold the car...

Here he is 48 years later checking out my 59 for the first time...

There was an "el Poncho" on display this year at Bair's corvettes in Linesville Pa. I believe it was a 1960. Done very well. but unfortunately I did not have my camera.
It looked absolutely genuine in the way it was done.

Did you let you Pop drive your 59?

I have always been fond of first-generation El Caminos. I find it a little bit amusing when pictures of flower cars (usually Cadillacs) are posted, and someone will always think it's a variation on the El Camino concept.

Well, I came upon this picture today of a funeral procession that actually used El Caminos as flower cars.
