It was another GREAT year at the HAMB Drags!

Four of us from Omaha headed towards Joplin on Friday morning. I drove my Uncle John's Model A Roadster and Jen rode with me most of the way. Jason (jho) and his dad drove their '63-1/2 Galaxie.

Not far out of Omaha we already had problems. Thankfully it was just a broken fan belt on the Galaxie and they had a spare with them.

We continued on towards Joplin and I get the feeling I may be boring to travel with? :)

    Helmet for safety.

Was cool to see something drag-related on the way down
(my dad drag raced a Kawasaki when I was a kid)

    Made it without any problems.
One photo from the hotel parking lot on Friday night.
This Roadster reminds me of Jim Shelton's, but I don't think it was his and that was the only time we saw it over the weekend.
    Regardless, very nice/cool Roadster!

Photos at the track on Saturday:

I've always liked this Roadster. I think the HAMB Alliance tag said the owner is 'CAL'

This Chevy Coupe was running a turbo six. VERY nice car and it ran HARD! Definitely one of my favorites at the Drags. I think it was making passes in the 10s, but has gone faster.

Jason went out to make a second pass in his Galaxie and ended up breaking an axle. With all of the modifications to the car, he knew the stock 28 spline axles were the weak points. It has a built 390, Tremec 5-speed, new/good driveshaft and u-joints, and a posi, among other things.

They had just cleaned the track and sprayed more traction compound before his fateful run.

Jason, his dad, and TJ (junk boys) quickly tore into it to see what damage was done. Ryno offered to go get his trailer, haul the car to his place, and let them/us use his shop to work on the car.

I went with him to get the trailer and the car was quickly loaded up and taken back to Ryno's.

Got back to Ryno's, unloaded, cleared a couple cars out of his shop, and put the Galaxie up on the lift.

    Carnage.

Notice the piece of wire tied to the axle. Jason made a 'lasso' out of the wire, pushed it over the piece left in the axle housing (with a long screw driver/pry bar)
, and pulled the axle out with it -- crazy!!

Knowing the axles were the weak points in the rear end, Jason brought an extra pair of axles... thankfully!

The car was fixed in less than an hour and back on the road!

    Done.

  17. Ok....just looked it up, Asbury is 585miles from Earth, Texas. Not too bad, if I'm not too busy next year I'm for sure going to head up that way. That's way cool of Ryno to help you guys out.

This belongs to a buddy of mine out of Bixby, Oklahoma. He and another friend drove up for Friday evening and were back in Tulsa at 1:30 AM.
That had to be a nice night drive back. :)

    Thanks Nick!
Love the shot of John driving down the highway with the helmet on.
The tan Chevy coupe is built and raced by the Stirneman Bros. from Missouri - killer car!
Congrats to John for getting the quick fix - thanks to Ryno: RULER!!!

No guys it is not. But definatly a big similarity. The one on the top is Dan Stoner's from SanFransico www.autoculture.org and was built by Tim Conder www.condercustom.com that car is almost done now.

The orange T was built by me and Bill Bierman of Creative Customs in St. Louis. Same guy with the "Suciede King" Studebaker and the orange "taxi" or "Barron Von Bierman" Henery J.

  28. Thanks for the pics Nick! And, it was great talking with you. I hope your work slows down some so you can get back to work on the roadster. :D Maybe we will see you in it in Austin next spring.
