problem is figuring which of the horn relays connection are what? the diagram shows somewhat but the relay , it has a bullet connection,a center nut which is the main horn line and 2 more connects. i am trying to see which goes to[coil neg.,ignition, flasher] and [ ammeter, starter solenoid] and which to [horn button]ground? please i have car almost done! and this is keeping me from driving it.
here is the diagram for the 46 through 49. It should be close enough to allow you to figure out yours. I think the later ones were a bit different but it should be close. If you are still running 6V make sure you use 12 gauge minimum for the wiring. You can power from the battery side of the starter solenoid, rather than the coil if you prefer. The horn button completes the ground to sound the horns.
thanks i ended up buying 2 12v 30amp relays and spread the load to ignition and horn on one and flasher and back up switch to other now saving for a gadget to drop 12v to 6v for gauges
the only gauge thing needs changing are the bulbs. if you are going negative ground, you need to swap terminals o the ammeter, gas gauge works on resistance so they don;t care about voltage.
here is diagram i been using, can you tell what to change in ammeter diagram to make it negative ground i am new to this and just followed the print
Welcome to the HAMB... Take a look at the tech archives for how to build voltage reducers for $3 apiece; you'll save quite a bit and learn some about your car's electrical system. -Stefan
i was looking at my p24 diagram if you look by batt it looks to me like it is negative ground am i right?
the routing is starter relay to horn relay to ignition to ammeter. there are several wires on both terminals do you mean the line from ignition to ammeter? or everything on left terminal switch over to right and everything right terminal to left? trying to do this once , i am blind in one eye ,cant see out the other too well and fun upside down to boot
thank you deano, so do i move the ignition connection to the left terminal on ammeter as you would look at dash, and will that solve the issue? of switching to neg ground. i am using the 12v battery neg ground and positive to starter relay now and last thing i have to wire is the headlight switch.
drove car tonite and whole system died it was about 9 pm and still parked somewhere, tried field switch horn relay, with another still no lights or anything ,i drove over speed bump a contact from the relay i believe the ammeter lead hit the firewall and took out the electric. where do i start checking to make it run?
I'd start by looking up an experienced automotive electrician. Sometimes a second set of eyes can find an overlooked issue. Have you checked if the ammeter has continuity still?
fuse on the rear of the headlamp switch?? Check the connections on the battery side of the solenoid. I had mine loosen up and it was like there was no power anywhere, but the battery was still reading 6.4 volts, but nothing worked.
i miss read a relay paired wires wrong ,i guess it goes with blind in one eye barely see out the other and not having sense to ask someone how to understand the schematics of them plastic things. that was a $100 tow lesson
