I am looking at four 215 aluminum olds/buick motors I'm thinking of doing something with.

If a flathead is too expensive to operate or just simply unavailable....then I'd take the next best thing, a Y-Block!

And even though I'm a Ford guy, if those two are unavailable, then I guess I'd take a Nailhead. I've seen some nice Model A's with those in em'.

My Dad's '61 Chrysler 300F 413 with 405 hp and two 4 bbls. It chirp-ed the tires on that 4200lb big finned beast at 60 mph+ going into passing gear!
I still like the pre '64 Chevy engines in this order: 409, 348, 327, 283

I like the Y block Ford, just not very dependable back in the day, and hard to get a lot of HP.

I'm old enough to remember when this "DeSoto" engine was an option. There is no other engine than the early Hemi. The rest are just boat anchors. :)

The 426 was a great engine also, but it is just too "modern".

  16. ZERO interest in a SBC here! If I built a Chevy it would be a W block engine....

    Ford- SOHC 427

MoPar- 392 style Hemi. I've got a 426 based Hemi but I think the 92s look better.

Anything inline- bonus points if it's got a centrifugal huffer or side draft carbs.
Close second- any of the first-generation, postwar V8s, though I have to say the Ford Y-Blocks and Buick Nailheads are my two favorites out of that group.
