If you want to know something, the HAMB seems to be a good place to ask!
We've got guys who know what every lever and gauge in an early steam rail
locomotive was for, how to recognize every WWII plane, how long the Stanleys'
steam speed record stood, and why Pete Best got kicked out of The Beatles!
So, why wouldn't somebody out there know the WHO-WHAT-WHEN-WHERE-WHY-
    AND-HOW of this photo? ;)

THANKS to John Brown, we can put this historic country-music pic to bed, KNOWING
just what it's about.:D He linked us to Billy Robinson's website, SO, that's one thing I
must correct: Billy's apparently alive and well, a long-time member of the Steel Guitar
Hall of Fame (that's Billy fourth from left). Secondly, we now know that this is a publicity
shot taken during the Grand Ol' Opry's FIRST European tour, in later 1949,;) very possibly
on November 13 in Berlin while entertaining troops (NOT '47, as I'd first guessed). I was
pleased to learn that most of the hard-to-recognize faces belong to the Opry backup
musicians who, like Billy, accompanied the tour. (Hank Williams had just been made
an Opry member in early-June '49. He was only a member for 26 months.)

RoadKill, I could look at these soap-box contraptions all day long!:p Dreaming of a real,
honest-to-gosh motorized go-kart, I made do cobbling together more than one of these
in the early '60s. I WONDER HOW MANY OTHER HAMBers did just what this boy did?
Notice, he's even got a trailer with blanket for when Jack gets tired of being a hood
    ornament! LOL :D

wow. there is a level of potential sexuality that is just incredible. the young lady's skirt is dangerously high above her knees and the look on her face suggests that she is bored and up for any ideas a fellow might have.

even some elements of the car lend sensual overtones to the photo, i.e., there is an light coming from under the dash that is gently bathing the girl's feet and legs in a soft, six volt, generator produced glow which suggests the photo was taken at the darkly magical time of dusk.

the driver's door has been flung wide open in such a fashion as to make access to the car, the steering wheel and the little hottie inhibited only by the driver's desires.

this pic is the difference between burlesque and porn and I'm a huge fan of the former. does anyone have any history on the pic?

  23. Great pic of some great stars! Web Pierce, Faron Young, Jimmie Dickens, Carl Smith and Ray Price. Thanks for posting - these singers are/were greats. I think Jimmie and Ray are still singing.

I saw Gene Vincent on his first U.K. tour back in 1960. He toured with Eddie Cochran who was killed in a car crash just a couple of weeks after I saw them
