Late Friday night I heard about an auction at an old salvage yard in Salina that was to be on Saturday morning (yesterday). This yard had closed due to business being slow and was ran by a father and son. The father retired and the son got a job somewhere else and most of the cars were crushed. This was an old yard with trees everywhere and you could never see what they had in there. They were kind enough to save some of the older and more desirable vehicles from the crusher and offered them to highest bidder at public auction. I picked up my trusty sidekick Cuzzindeke and we watched the sale for something to do at 9 am on a Saturday morning. Neither one of us intended to buy anything and we didn't. I took some photos and wrote down prices. I try to stay focused on my engine business nowadays and no longer buy and sell whole vehicles for myself. I do still buy nice vehicles for a collector friend from time to time. Most everything was rough and sold fairly cheaply. Looking back I assume it would have been easier to crush them all and I doubt it was worth the auctioneer's time. It was a small sale and was over by 10:30 am.

well those prices are better than scrap prices.

  22. It was much better that they were sold to be someone's project or even parts car than
to be crushed. Thanks for the pictures and info.

Pretty cool of those guys to save them for auction, but I wonder how many of them got bought by a scrapper anyways.

Yes, that was kinda my point. There were other cars I didn't take photos of for $125-150 or so. If you average out all of the prices----he could have just saved the best 8-10 cars and crushed the rest. EVERYONE wants to SAVE all the old cars till it comes tome to pay up-----

I have a really stupid idea I have had bouncing around the back of my head for the last 20 years that involves a 1920's or earlier Fire Truck,.. It's something I would never get around to, because,.. well,.. were all running out of time,.. But !,.. given the opportunity,.. I would amass the raw materials,... put them in a pile,... look at it,... think about it,.... look at it some more.... and ,... probably never touch it. :D

Leaving it for my wife to have to deal with when I "assume room temperature". Then people that would attend her Auction,... Would scratch there head,.. look at it,... say to one another,.. "What the heck was he thinking ???!!,... This guy was really SICK!!" and hence,... my legend would continue.:D
