Cars with original Duvall windshields

Correct - my uncles windsheild frame was home made by him....and I got the cabroilet/roadster mixed up too....his highschool pic is of the uncut cabroilet about 1944. His 31 roadster body was bought for $15 in about 1947-48 for the BVille build.

 

I've always wondered how different O.G. ones were from the 80s one that was seen on a lot of '32s. I also remember a Deuce in American Rodder that had one with more tucked in sides and more radius to the corners on top, (in a feature with some carson topped customs shot in side view) I think Coonan shot em so he would know-

What kind of wheel covers are those?

 

Julian Doty is Duvall's nephew and was selling the windshields in the 40's & 50's. He would probably have an idea how many were made. I understand he is still involved in lakes racing....

This may be the same car as the last one I posted. Looks like a modified cabriolet.

 

I heard recently from a friend , that Mr. Doty is unfortunately not doing well health wise .

 

Enclosed is a picture of my 1932 Ford roadster with a Duvall style windshield. It was hand formed out of sheet steel. The two outer attachment holes are the stock windshield post mounting. Also the car still has the stock reveal that is at the base of a stock windshield. As most of you know a Duvall was originally made for a 1935 or 1936 Roadster cowl and the originals have a hump cast into them to clear the reveal under the windshield. I also have an original cast from brass that was never used or cut down for a 1932 Ford. It is also featured in Hot Rod Deluxe January 2012.

 

Julian Doty passed away on May 2.

Jaguar XK120 roadsters had nice stock Duvall style windshields.

 

Did boats come first with this type of windshield? There were several high dollar wooden “speed boats” in the 30s and 40s that used variations on the Duvall-type windshield.

I think boats and production passenger cars developed the split windshields at the same time. Duvall enhanced the swept motion and made it fit an early Ford just a couple years later.
