This is my H.F. bead roller that I powered with an electric power steering motor and gearbox, and SBC flexplate. The direction is controlled by a double foot switch and four relays, running off a car battery. The stand is made from warehouse racks and a '78 Chev van gas tank bracket. Am currently adding a speed control from a 12V trolling motor that allows me to slow the machine to where you can barely see the wheels turn, still having enough power to shape the metal without stalling. Have posted this machine before.

My old 622, great machine but limited throat. If I ever get above water agin one of your rollers will be my next purchase. I NEED a deeper throat. Wow that didn't come out sounding right:confused: Is your units shaft the same as the Pextos ?....That didn't sound right either:rolleyes:

Where's a good place to get mandrels for it? I got one a year ago and only have one set for it and would like others.

My Dad and I recently powered up a Central Machinery bead roller. Used a garage door opener that was kicking around. Cheap $7 foot pedal off ebay. Mounted a light switch bead roller3.jpg bead roller4.jpg to change directions. Model A axle tube as a stand. (have since added a flywheel to the bottom to make it more stable). bought a 40 teeth bicycle sprocket to gear it down even more. added a gusset to strengthen it. We are amateurs, still learning, but it seems to work pretty good.

I tried the garage door opener rout. Great torque, but much too fast for me even geared down.

Here are some pictures of my homemade bead roller. While it works well, it ended up being a LOT of work that isn't readily apparent. I was able to get a deeper throat on it than most bead rollers though. My suggestion is to buy one of the inexpensive bead rollers and upgrade (brace/motorize). Work just as well and a whole lot less work. If you can find a reasonably priced DC motor AND the controller that comes with it (Ebay), you can get one geared down where it can be slowed to about 5/10 rpms for good work and speeded slightly for longer straight sections. Speed control is important.

Here is one someone else made years ago. Very heavy duty. I like it for doing thicker stuff and wide flat beads.

Made mine out of scrap and added a VFD controller.
Kept it traditional by using a Ford diff flange as part of my base.

Has not done a lot of work, but was great when I did my hood.
This is the hood inner that I made with it.
