It appears i'll be going to Vegas in Aug sometime. So i'm looking for info, are there any car, motorcycle things to see there? I'm not into gambling or "shows" much so looking for alternatives. Hope you guys come up with something.
Go visit the boys from SoCal rod shop, really good bunch. Jim may still have the Gray Baskerville car in the showroom? plus theres always a heap of other cool rides to look at.
Vegas took 5 years off the end of my life last time I was there, but I had a damn good time!! I don't know of any car related things to do since I'm not from there, I only took advantage of the way off topic things to do.
Whats with all these people coming to Vegas and wondering what to do?? IT"S VEGAS for gawds sake! Just remember Vegas is a desert, so leave all the green you can behind when you leave
Check out the car collection at the Imperial Palace. Take a ride out to the Hoover Dam and also check out the new bridge. I'm not a huge gambler...but it's a great place to watch all facets of the human race!
Check out the Pinball museum off Tropicana Blvd. Old school coin-op games and pinballs from the 50s-70s. That are set up to play for the public.
Ah Vegas, life's rich pageant. I know it's OT, but doesn't that Shelby guy have a little shop out there?
I second the recommendations for SoCal Speed Shop and the Pinball Hall of Fame (on Tropicana, a little ways east of Maryland Parkway). It is likely to be pretty warm that time of year, so plan the outdoor activities in short cycles. If August "sometime" includes 13-19, a road trip to Speed Week might be possible. It's about a five or six hour drive each way.
Go to the races at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Very well run short track, and the races have been excellent every time I've been there.
Ive always wanted to check out the neon sign boneyard. Ive seen it on TV and it looks pretty neat. http://www.neonmuseum.org/
Neon museum is pretty cool from what i could see through the fence. It was not open when i went there. Be sure to call ahead.
There is a decent car show every Sunday morning in the NW area of the valley. Lately about 50-60+ cars are there every weekend and sometimes up to 100 cars or more. A map and some photos can be found here: http://1moremile.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
i just got back from vegas yesterday. i say car show at the imperial, hoover dam, fremont street experience at night( i didnt get a hige kick out of it, but some things arent fun in a wheelchair, crowds are on that list) if youve ever seen the show Pawn Stars on the history channel, you can visit the shop. go up the stratosphere. thats all i canthin of for now where will you be staying?
I haven't been there for a couple of years but we went down to a bike shop ( high Dollar) I think it was Arlen Ness. They gave us a tour of the shop and we got to slobber on some really nice stuff. There is a HUGE flea market out towards the air force base,If you like cheesy tourist stuff there is Oatman Arizona( take some carrotts with you) .West of Vegas is a old west tourist type town with gunfights ,hangings and such. I think it is just called old Vegas. One of the museums, may have been a county one,had a display of homes from the 1900s right up till today ,completely furnished in period stuff including the cars in the driveway. If someone is around a lot of race teams and car builders have shops out by the track. They may be working and they may let you walk and talk. Stay away from the promicuous sex, easy hook ups and seemingly endless blond bimbos walking around making themselves available. It is a fleeting fantasy and you really can't tell anyone about it once you get home can you?
