On the way back from a lake in a nearby small town I spot a grill for a 53 chevy in someones yard. I pull into the driveway, knock on the door and a woman answers. I ask her about the grill and she kind of laughs and tells me I can have it she has no interest in cars and her son had dragged it out of the woods. We continue to talk and she proceeds to tell me there is about 20-30 "Old junky cars" in the woods behind her house!! She took my number and told me she would call and I can have a go at 'em. That was 2 weeks ago, I think I'm going to show up at her house with a cake and a bottle of wine if she doesen't call...haha! How to gently prod a woman to let me rummage through her property ?? :D

See what the cars are...rotted out '52 Dodges or rows of '32 Fords?? Answer would lie somewhere between offering a Hershey bar and proposing marriage, depending.

How about knocking on her door like you did the 1st time? Then pay her a reasonable amount for the cars you want?

If not the tongue ring deal couldn't cost more then a $100 and you will get the cars and an interesting new experience. Video it and you can sell it to pay for the cars.

As much fun as the tongue ring sounds like it could potentially be, I'd probably avoid that myself.

How about just going back again and politely talking some more? Leave the treats home, might seem a little weird and pushy. Just ask to have a look at it and offer to consider paying a reasonable amount for anything worth it and maybe even offer to help the 12 yr. old out with making a project out of something for himself too. Might be a way to get the boy into something constructive and positive and be a win/win for everyone.

Just be polite, dress nice, greet her with a smile and lick your eyebrows. Works every time.

Just go back and politely ask her if you could take a look and maybe shoot a few pics of things so you don't forget what is there. Ask her what is possibly for sale. You sound like you know how to be polite, so I wouldn't worry.
