Ok here's a test for the HAMB.
I need help arranging two items with total weight around 1200 pounds to be taken from Jakarta to Tuk-Tuk on Samosir Island by July12th. Will have to be by trucked and boat as to heavy to fly then 2 to 3 weeks later go back to Jakarta to ship out. Does anyone here know who I can contact for this? PM for more details.

There should be trucking companies there just as there are here. If it is household goods you will have to find a moving company if things there are like they are here though.

A google search shows several freight forwarding companies there and that is probably where I would start.

  3. Bluto has moved an entire collection to Europe and if you pm him or do a history check on his posts he gives the name and the info needed for Safe and expedient transportation over seas.

    Good Luck!

Yep did a google search there and came up with many companies. I was hoping to find someone who has had luck with a specific company. Anyone can advertise they do such and such. The items have to be delivered by July12th to Tuk-Tuk. It got complicated due to the logistics. Since it cannot be flown from Jakarta to Tuk Tuk. I am looking for any members who specifically know the way around there. This whole thing apparently has played out like Planes-Trains-and Automobiles movie.

I thought it was a joke at first.......

  8. Knew Jakarta was South Africa, Tuk-Tuk sounds like your watch is broken.

Seems like I've read reports that crime is pretty bad there, so good luck with it.

In Indo things go on "Jam Karut" or rubber time: ie: time can stretch way out. Makes Mexico's "Manana" look like double time.

It has been some years since I was there, but if I were doing it I'd hire a truck & driver personally myself in Jakarta, then ride along. It's a long, tough ride though.

  11. You might try the US Navy. They are pretty good to have around when you need a ride.

Yeah,PM Bluto (Jim). He told me a story about 10 years ago about shipping a Stutz from somewhere in Indonesia.
You might want to also look through Hemmings or maybe even the NY Times for a shipping agent

Not sure how the US Navy would help can you shed some light on this? As for me I'm not in Jakarta. It is a long story and the Jakarta to Lake Toba is only 1/3 of it. Basically it went from the best laid plans to WTF in a rather short time span. But through the HAMB I got in contact with an individual who is able to get the right people in position to help in Jakarta. Saxman ....yes it is in Indonesia as is Lake Toba. Two of the people going there are friends of mine and the other is a family member and the fourth is unknown to me. But the mess up came with the logistics of shipping and equipment which is stuck in another country north of it due to some other reasons.... the other 2/3rds of the problem of which I am not a part of at this time. Rustynewyorker...yeah I'm sure there is corruption/crime but that is everywhere you go (which is why I wanted to try and find someone through the HAMB)....hell I'm from Illinois where we vote in Governors and then convict them on a regular basis now.... great pension plan.... 4 years in office 20 years in jail. Gov Ryan-convicted on several counts. Gov Blago convicted just recently. We have had four in the last 30 plus years get convicted of wrongdoing. Before that two more where on trial but not sure what for.

  15. You are shipping equipment in a part of the world where a military escort is probably advisable. If you don't understand the jab at the Navy I probably can't explain it to you it is one of those you would have had to have been there things.

There is a lot of difference between the corruption in Illinois and what you are going to run into in Indonesia I am afraid.

Glad that you got it worked out. I wish your friends luck on their expidition.
