Rental Schmental. This is a movie worth owning. I just about wore out my VHS copy, and then got the DVD to find some great "Special Features" on it. It deserves a spot on your car movie shelf right between "2 Lane Blacktop" and "Deuce of Spades."

Is the "Bill Hamlin Suspension Fix" still common on road-worthy Tuckers? Has anyone tried some modern elastomers to rebuild the tosilastic joints?

GTT, Did owner of Tucker #1052 say when he would has his car completed? Do you know what color it is going to be? Love the dialogue here!

 

Neither car has had any recent suspension work... Tucker #1003, being an early car, has the early suspension set-up - Short control arms (with Bill Hamlin-added springs!) and all steering components above the frame. Combine that with the short wheelbase, rear-mounted fuel tank and a few passengers and you have all the weight in the rear and essentially no weight in the front, giving the car a "tail-dragger" or boat like appearance - Low rear, high front.

Tucker #1031 has the later suspension - Longer/larger A-arm style with "Torsialastic" cylinders up front, all steering links below the frame and front-mounted fuel tank, longer wheelbase and a combination of original Torsialastic suspension, added torsion bar and relocated shocks in the rear, giving the car a "raked" appearance - High rear, low front. Both cars ride on the same Firestone 7.00 X 15 tires.

When completed, #1052 will wear a color close to what was originally on the Tin Goose at the 1947 unveiling.

Does #1052 have a hood for his car. I know a guy in Minnesota that has an original Tucker hood, if he needs one. Does anyone know how Tucker #1059 which I believe is the Tucker airplane coming along in restoration.

 

Yes, he has a hood. There are several floating around on E-Bay. One sold last year for $1,250. The guy that built the Convertible had one for sale for $8,000 but it has been sold. Sounds like he took less than that for it.

It would be the Tucker airplane that was to be a gift to Senator Ferguson for his help for Preston Tucker in the SEC's case against the Tucker Corporation.

 

When I was a kid there was a tucker in a junk yard in MN that I used to play in. It was later sold to someone out west. not sure where. I was only a teenager.
I beleive the Minnesota owners name was Whitey

There have been thousands of Tucker in a junk yard sightings but Tucker #1011 was the only Tucker ever in a junk yard. The car was not junked. It was owned by the yards owner. It was at Whitey's Auto Parts, 13517 Hwy 65 in Johnsville MN. Johnsville was later annexed to Blaine MN. The car was sold in 1987 to an owner that wishes to remain private. Whitey passed away just a few months ago.

I was going to ask about the ones that sat in steelton. I remember my uncle telling me about them. He also showed me where they lived. I found it hard to believe. Guess he wasn't just messing with me..

At one time there were 3 1/2 Tuckers on Pine Street in Steelton PA. The Tin Goose, #1008, #1044, and the front half of #1018

I was fortunate enough to see (up close) 1025 in Frankfort,IN several tears ago.It's not a big museum,but it's packed with cars and automobilia. I saw one at Aubnurn,IN at that museum,but don't remember the number. I've always been a fan of the Tucker.
