I'm headed up for two weeks this Sunday. That means a 4th of July weekend in SLC. Anything interesting going on for a gearhead? Places I should see that aren't in the tourism guides? Good food?

Go onto the Utah Hambers social group. I was in SLC for a week a couple of months back and hung out with a couple cool Hambers. It was a great time!

Not all of those are local SLC, but most of them are.

The Cache Valley Cruise In listed there for June 30th -July 2 features the Beach Boys this year. Decent show, only 10 - 15% Hamb friendly cars, but lots of fun stuff. Hour and a half- 2 hours north of SLC.

For great Mexican food, hit the Red Iguana on North Temple. There's lots of construction in downtown SLC so it can be tricky to get around but this place is worth it. For fast Mexican, any Beto's/Rancherito's you come across is good. If Chinese is for you, The Manderin in Bountiful is the best, people drive from all over the valley to go there. The best sandwich shop is Spanky's, also in Bountiful. What do you like?
Another good attraction is the Price Museum of Speed.

I almost forgot to mention Iggy's sports grill, various locations. Also try Moochie's sandwiches near downtown SLC. If your gearheadedness includes aircraft, hit the Hill Areospace museum in Clearfield, about 25-30 min north of SL. While you're that far north, go to Burger Stop in Layton.

Best food in SLC is fish tacos at Lone Star Taqueria. Take a drive up Big Cottonwood Canyon, very cool views. Bonneville isn't far, even if nothing is going on its still totally awesome to check out if you've never been there. Este pizza!! Street taco cart at State St and 9th (in Sears parking lot) is the shit!

I stayed just down the road from the Red Iguana and they had amazing food. I ate there a lot and coming from southern AZ I can honestly say it is as close as you will get to Mexican food without going over the boarder.

Rodizio Grill is also a cool place to see but it's not cheap.

  16. Do the guys still get together on Sundays in the park behind the Tracy Aviary? Met some nice folks there in 02 when my wife was working out there.

July? You're comming to Utah in July? Dude you need to come at the end of August!!!

Go to Logan's run (Cache Valley Cruise In). You'll like it. They used to shut down about 2 miles of main street after the show and cruise the show cars up and down for a few hours. I don't know if they still do, I haven't been for 6 years...

Burger Stop in Layton has a car show once a month.. Not sure what week though. Good eats there as well.

Dont forget to go to the Aerospace Museum at Hill Air Force Base.

They still shut down the main drag for the entrants to the cruise in. They are giving away a decent 30's chevy coupe this year.

Thanks for all the tips, folks!

I got in late Sunday and stayed close to the hotel, but Monday we got out and found Virg's. Best flippin' cheeseburger I've had in ages! Yesterday we found Pat's BBQ! Pulled Pork, Baby! Today, it was the Red Iguana! I'm a TexMex snob and this place knocked my socks off!

Now I'm looking for stuff to do this weekend. Looks like I may run out Bonneville at some point just to set foot on the salt, but looks like Cache Valley Cruise-in will fit the bill Saturday. I'd like to see the Price Museum, but there's no address or phone number anywhere on the internet, not even their own page. ????? How do I find this place?!

Honestly, I haven't been there yet so I don't know where it is. The Price in the name is the same as Price Realty, (801) 478-8000 is the office number, maybe they can point you the right way. One of the guys who worked on the restoration of the Mormon Meteor has a shop down the street from me, Rodger at RB machine, (801) 292-6632, he should know. One more try would be 4 port Riley here on the HAMB, he worked on the resto too. PM him, he should know.

The National Model Car Builders Museum is located there. If you are a model builder, it could be a nice place to visit. Check it on the web.

Not true....go to Wasatch Brew Bub, downtown Salt Lake. Thier specialty beer is the Polygamy Porter, good stuff!
