Well, I have officially changed my outlook on patina. Your car was one of a choice few screensavers I had because I loved the old paint look.

    I just replaced that picture.

With one of the new ones from above.

You nailed it! The blackwall tires look great, even if they are radials.

    Thanks!

I should add, that alot of the scrapes on the rear fenders and the backs of the front fenders, I put there 35 years ago. Is there anything cooler to use as a slide than an old Ford coupe?

I still like cars with patina. I have no plans to repaint the '55.

We didn't do the paint ourselves, although my cousin is getting pretty good with a paint gun after doing the firewall on his 4 door and also my Dad's 3 window. I've been practicing the woodgraining off an on. Eventually I'm going to woodgrain the dash, as that is what it had when Dad first bought it.

Funny, I told my Dad the exact same thing, that it can earn it's patina over the next 40 years, and that it will be up to my boy if it ever gets painted again. :D My boy is doomed with "the sickness" already. He told Mommy that he "needed a sedan delivery" for his tools. He's not even 3 yet. :D

Tough call, I like it both ways but you need to get the whitewalls back on. ;)

As much as I liked the old look it just seems "natural" for it to evolve the way it has. I'm fighting the same battle with Harrison's old '38. I REALLY like the aged look it has now because it has gotten its battle scars by living a full life starting way back then but I can see (in my mind) where it would look fresh if it were to have a new paint job. In the meantime I'm content to bring the brakes up to date by replacing the mechanicals with hydraulic and dong a '39 syncro trans swap.

What strikes most is NOT the tires, or the paint, or the changes made or not made... it the fact that this car has a 'family'!!! Whatever changes they make or don't, it still is a crucial common ground for a family to relate to. THAT is what impresses me the most.
Like many, I have my own opinion about what should or shouldn't have been done, or what I would do.... and that is just what they are... MY opinions. As long as these folks are happy with what they have... then it is 'just perfect!" :)

I have done a few bad things with it. This is from this past weekend at the Hunnert Car Heads Up. Dad was less than pleased, but inside I think he quietly enjoyed it watching from the stands. I told him I was always a good kid, so he shouldn't complain. :D

I'm disappointed, black walls, really? New paint? Really? OK ! It looks badass. but I am sad to see that the hood was not opened here. hmmm.....rumor has it that this little Ford is afflicted with Ford small blockitis, the very same ailment that my old Ford is infected with. Not such a bad disease if it's true.
Don't worry, you and the little guy can paint the 55 in 25 years.
    Have fun.

  30. Nicer than ever. Cool to see the lil one digging dads car!
